I have never been able to appreciate the black Friday allure, I hate shopping for things, I love food shopping but everything else I intensely dislike. Crowds in any store bring out my claustroph­obia so that it becomes physically and mentally painful for me. I suppose that on the surface it is a good sign but for whom? Can the public afford more personal debt so that the retailers can line their corporate bank accounts, the retail employees these days; are they paid a living wage? The only reason that I ever hope that the holiday shopping sales are up is that the retail workers can keep their jobs, but are those jobs the kind that can pay the bills? We need to continue to focus on the need to bring back the living wage as opposed to outrageous corporate bonuses and stockholde­rs dividends.
