It is always great to come home and be greeted by these two. I know that I am crazy indulgent about sharing video and pictures of our dogs; I hate to think what I would have been like when our kids were toddlers. Our son was very easy to babysit and he spent hours playing with his legos, his toy cars and drawing with his crayons. Our daughter was very high spirited, curious about everything and never minded wandering off on her own. Both would have been front and center at some point on my blog; a creative block for our son and a highjinks block for our daughter.

Jack and Lulu, just like our kids, are different in their ways, Lulu prefers to stay near us and doesn’t need to spend long minutes chasing down potential critters whereas Jack adores poking his nose into every small hole trying to catch his prey. Lulu likes to stay next to the fence visiting with our next door neighbor’s two female dogs, while Jack keeps his ears open for possible intruders. He may be small but he is the house watchdog. lol

Over the past several days I have noticed a big difference in Lulu’s behavior during our walks, she is now convinced that she is a bird dog, it seems that she is mimicking Jack yet once again. If she wasn’t so strong, it would be cute, but it has been quite the workout walking and restraining her from bursting through bushes to get at the poor birds.

I thought that I would video her antics while off the leash in the back with Jack acting as the ringleader. Well obviously Jack was behaving as he always does, happy as all get out, running and skipping to asert his dominance over his domain. Lulu, of course since I was filming, didn’t follow the script. She didn’t feel like showing off her newly found talents of bird dogging, nope she stayed with her baby sitter, me.

My husband was loading the mouse traps, we do live in the country and sometimes you have to put your foot down and say enough already you mices! Jack was very curious with what his Papa was doing so of course Papa decided to give Jack a nice finger full of peanut butter. It was quite amusing, I love the sound of Jack licking and licking and licking, it is so cute.

Does anyone know why dogs seem to have to yawn before they howl? Jack isn’t the only one who does it; Tuck our beagle did it and so did my mother-in-law’s dog Zingo, he was a dachshund/beagle mix and right before his serenades he would do his big yawn and then he would sing for us.

We always have a laugh with Jack; it is amazing how much joy a pet can bring to you. I think back over the years to all of the wonderful dogs we have had from Dylan, Jacquelina, Marshall, Rex, Tuck and now Jack and we have been truly blessed with each and every one of them.

A wonderful surprise in the mail

Mail used to be fun or at least it seemed exciting before adulthood and bills became the norm; I am talking about the days of college acceptance letters, pen pal letters and birthday cards, Christmas cards and such. Of course back then there were weeks of dead time so when something eventually came, it was even more special.

Nowadays there is never any dead time between bills. Our mailbox is never empty, but occasionally there appears a golden nugget and happy days! Just the other day a golden nugget appeared in the mailbox in the form of a DVD from my dear new friend Claudine and it was such a wonderful gift.

I wrote about my adventures in New York City when I served as tour guide for my cousin Francoise and three members of her photography club during the first week of September. We had the best time together and we affectionately came to call ourselves the Club Bigorneaux. When I opened the DVD, I was hopping to the DVD, anxiously inserting the DVD and pressed play and voila, a masterpiece of beautifully pieced together vignettes of our time together. I laughed at so many parts and throughout it all I was smiling, I had such a great time with Claudine, Marc, Alain and of course my cousin Francoise and my mother as well when we spent part of the weekend with her.

I love it when mail gets exciting again. 🙂

Cute antics of our beloved little Jack

Our little Jack has several cute ways of both walking and running, in addition to his leaps and jumps. He does this odd combination of a prance and jump, we call it the Odie from the Garfield cartoon or if you have ever seen the cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the Grinch’s dog Max does the same prance/jump as Jack.

I like to share Jack’s adorable personality because he brightens my day everyday and I’d like to share the love with my readers. Spending a minute watching a nice, friendly, adorable pet like Jack playing fetch can distract you from whatever worries that may be plaguing you, at least for a minute or so.

Now that our back yard has finally shed much of its snow, our little Jack has been spending more time searching for his prey, the chipmunks, who have finally emerged from hibernation so he has been a hunter with a mission these past few days. He hasn’t caught any in part due to, I think, his long winter session of being a couch potato (hee, hee). He needs to get back to his prior speed and quick reflexes if he is going to be serious about even catching a chipmunk. I don’t push him to be a hunter but I do like the exercise that it gives him. My chipmunk population, if it is anything like it was last year, is so large that they won’t be shy coming out.

I hope that Jack’s video puts a smile on your face. He does so to me on a daily basis. In all the seriousness of life, sometimes silliness is required.

A video showing why I love Cap Ferret so much

I was perusing Facebook to see what was new if anything and I saw that my cousin Leon had posted a YouTube video of Lege-Cap Ferret. The video shows the area of the Bassin, the Bay, at low tide in the beginning, but I find that even with all of the fishing boats laying on their side, where they would normally be floating at high tide, somehow romantic and picturesque. As the video plays along you get to see sunrise and sunset on the bay and on the beach. You also get to see the oyster and mussel beds where the region’s bounty is harvested. You get to see the wilderness and the sense that man hasn’t yet conquered all. My earliest memories of France are there at Cap ferret, my interpretation of paradise.

Oh my lordy

All of our guests are gone and today being Monday, it has been the start of a restful and normal week. Jack and I are back to being alone though my baby boy joined us for a spell. The baby boy and I love playing around with Jack; he is such a good little boy.

This morning I was so wiped that I couldn’t even get out of bed to send my hubby off to work. Jack and I didn’t greet the world until 9:45 and we have both been in slow motion ever since; there hasn’t been any improvement on the speed of our movements as the day waned. It must be a delayed reaction to the skiing and the schlepping. I went for my mile walk today twice; I hadn’t done them at all last week since we were busy with our guests, and I felt it. I was surprised that I felt the absence of exercise, it was only one week, but I felt it nevertheless. As I was walking, all I had going through my mind was “oh my lordy what is wrong with me” I felt that I was dragging and the feeling hasn’t left.

I think that Jack and I need at least another day of recuperation and then we should be as good as new.
