One of my favorite movies is “Immortal Beloved” starring Gary Oldman as Ludwig von Beethoven. My eyes teared for so many reasons during the entire movie. Gary Oldman is one of our finest actors and he can make anything and any character compelling and his portrayal of Beethoven throughout the movie was nothing if not compelling. He made my heart ache for his pain as a person and as an artist. The difficult search for Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved” made for such a poignant love story, so poignant at the end that I couldn’t help but shed tears for the futility of it all. Now imagine this beautiful love story set against the background of the genius of Beethoven as a composer. His symphonies played explaining each chapter of his life and experiences. The music pierces your soul and elevates it to the heavens, his music speaks of heartache, humility, pain, courage, love and all other emotions. If ever you want to feel your heart transported by extraordinary music, do watch “Immortal Beloved”.
