My husband took this gorgeous shot amongst others, we share pictures between our phones, I don’t know how, they just magically appear lol. Most of the time, I’m not interested because they are work related, but when he takes pictures wearing his photographer’s hat, they really pop. He has a beautiful eye for photography.

I love the way the clouds were captured on the Freedom Tower’s side panels, the vibrancy of the color blue, both actual and reflective, I love the cotton ball aspect of the clouds, seemingly placed just so around the Freedom Tower, and the juxtaposition of the surrounding buildings, short, stout and tall in the overall composition.

There are some pictures that bring everything together just so, this is one of those pictures in my opinion. Excellent job my husband.

  

Supporting our young musician

This afternoon we are off to Worcester, only an hour away, to hang out with the youngins, hopefully we won’t stick out too much like sore thumbs, the old fogies that we are, lol. I know you are only as old as you feel. I am looking forward to seeing our son on stage, head banging, playing and singing at the same time. I can’t do that, I am lucky that I can walk and talk at the same time and keep upright. I am not adept at getting my left side and right side to do two separate things which is what musicians must do, both my hands want to do the same thing; an excellent example is the pat your head while you rub your belly, I either rub my head and belly or tap my head and belly. When I have tried, I end up cracking myself up, it is so silly.

It will be a good time tonight.

The question here is, if you can have any author, living or dead, write your biography who would it be? One of my favorite writers is Emile Zola, granted he is not one of the most uplifting writers that you will ever encounter, but I feel that he brings a passion and a heart to whatever he chooses his subject matter to be and he never shied away from the down and dirty aspects of his subjects’s lives. His works include Germinal, about the mines around Sainte-Etienne, France or The Earth, La Terre, essentially documenting the plight of the peasants and farmers. Most would agree that both of these works are downright depressing so why would I want Emile to write my biography? Well since my life hasn’t been anything as difficult as mineworkers or farmers, then perhaps my biography would be one of the most uplifting works that Emile Zola would ever have the joy of writing. Could that be possible? Well not in reality, but in my rich fantastical imagination, it could.

It would be so interesting to see how an artist would interpret my little life that is all my own. What broad strokes would he paint and what fine lines would be drawn, I wonder? How would he explain motherhood and tending the home in the grand scheme of the rest of my universe? Even if no one else was interested, I sure would be intrigued.

You should see me moving today; very slowly and gingerly. My back feels fine and I am not in any pain, but my muscles in my arms and shoulders feel heavy and they feel like they are weighing me down. That was an awful lot of snow that I moved yesterday. The snowplows pushed all the snow as far back away from the road and the unintended consequence is a series of snow mountains that is making turning at cross streets dangerous and easing out of driveways a hazard as well. This week is going to be a warm one so I think that these snow mountains may not remain a hazard for long. I’ll be crossing my fingers.

Tonight, my hubby and I are going to be watching the Grammy’s, joining the rest of the country and I think the world. L.L Cool J will be the host this year, same as last year, and I am looking forward to seeing the performances of various artists such as FUN, Beyonce, the Black Keyes and I am hoping that Adele will perform at some point. I know that she is a new mom, but I would really love to see her perform her hit Skyfall from the Bond movie.

I like awards shows, I like looking at all the dresses, the shoes, the jewelry, I also like listening to all the music clips if it’s a music awards event and if it’s a movie or television event than I enjoy all the clips while the nominees are being called. They are fun and entertaining especially when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the Golden Globes, I know that L.L Cool J won’t be as funny but he keeps the show going and the joint jumping.

It will be a nice evening of music and t.v, perfect combination to enjoy before Monday rolls around again and the week starts anew.

Unique Sweets

My hubby and I are watching the show Unique Sweets on the Cooking Channel. It’s a dangerous show to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon, everything that they are describing is making my hubby salivate. All this show is doing for me, is calling my inner patissiere or baker to get out into the kitchen and make something like croissants or pain aux raisins or an apple galette. Trust me,when I say that I don’t have the skill set or the true talent to go into business making beautiful pastries for public consumption. My stuff tastes good, I might even go as far as very good at times, but I never get the aesthetic part right.

The show was highlighting breakfast pastries and there were three places that rated their mention. On the West Coast there was Knead Bakery, there was also Levain Bakery and there was a third called Sonoma Bakery. All three had original pastries. There was a breakfast apple pissette; essentially a thin crust apple pizza which looked mouth wateringly delicious. Another amazing breakfast pastry offering was the palme d’or which is a puff pastry shell filled with soft caramel sprinkled with sea salt topped with a vanilla pastry cream and sprinkled on top with a generous dusting of sugar that the pastry chef puts a blow torch to creating a hard carmel topping to the pastry. It was a masterpiece. The other pastry that was truly note worthy was a whole wheat dinner roll that once out of the oven was split open and stuffed with slivers of excellent European chocolate and closed back together. After purchasing, you saw the customers open their whole wheat rolls and see this luscious molten chocolate emerge, I have personal experience with this type of treat. When I was a child in France, my sister, my cousin and I at 4:00 p.m, would take 4 inch pieces of French baguettes and insert pieces of chocolate in the interior and eat them for a snack. French crusty baguettes make an excellent foil for good quality chocolate.

My love of baking is really the love and desire to put smiles on everyone’s faces. Whenever I make something by hand, it makes me so happy to see my family close their eyes, flair their nostrils and lick their lips in delight. It truly is all about the love. That would be the only reason for baking in a professional capacity, to spread the love and goodness that is all about patisserie.
