What a movie, J.J Abrams has such a a talent for story telling, I saw it in the movie Super 8 and he has gotten better ever since. I will not give away anything from the movie, I didn’t want my experience to be tainted by others, so I won’t taint anyone else’s. It is safe to say that my husband and I, passionate Star Wars fans, loved it. I left the theater feeling as if J.J Abrams made the movie for me. I went into the movie the same way I went into the first Star Wars, back in 1977 when I was 10 years old, not knowing anything and open to everything and I wasn’t disappointed in the least. I felt as if I was watching old friends on the screen, I could almost hear Obi wan Kenobi in my head.

I can’t wait for the next one, it will be a very long two years. 😦

That was the size of it, back then in the late 70’s, two years between movies, it was torture! It will be torturous once again. What an epic adventure. Waiting is so hard!

Hans Solo, Harrison Ford, May 4th, postaday2013, Star Wars

My dear friend Tilly of thelaughinghousewife.wordpress.com fame wished us, her readers, a Happy Star Wars day by saying May the 4th be with you. I had a good laugh at her cleverness. What has been interesting to me is that lately Harrison Ford, during his rounds of promoting his latest movie 42, has been asked if he had been contacted to be part of a new Star Wars movie and he has been very coy about it. I would love to see Star Wars be reintroduced with the next generation of Solo-Skywalker progeny, the offspring of Princess Leia and Hans Solo. Imagine, it would be so cool, little ones even stronger in the force than their Uncle Luke and their mom Princess Leia.

Actually Harrison Ford said during one interview that he had never been contacted and he wouldn’t reveal anything else. There was a funny bit right after that line of questioning when Jimmy Kimmel threw some questions out to the audience, and Chewbacca stood up and Harrison Ford became quite irate, implying that Chewbacca crossed the line and it was unforgiveable. Harrison’s last parting shot was “that was my wife! You furry @#$@###”

Disney owns the rights to the Star Wars franchise so it will be interesting to say the least what comes out from the Disney creative team later on down the road. I think that we all need a new Star Wars and a new generation of heroes and hope.

One of the new shows this year is Neighbors on ABC. It’s about a human family who unwittingly move into a gated community that had been taken over by alien shipwrecked aliens inhabiting human form. Jaime Gertz has been a favorite actress of mine since I was in my late teens, early twenties. She plays Debra the mom, happily married to Marty, they have three children. They find out that they are living in an alien community and hijinks ensues. The alien family who decide to adopt Debra and Marty Weaver as friends, are named Jackie Joyce Girney and Larry Byrd. The aliens all named each other after sports figures.

Tonight is a very special episode, George Takei from Star Trek fame and Mark Hamil from Star Wars fame are guest appearing as supreme commanders checking in to see how the mission is going. I must not be the only one who considers this show as a guilty pleasure when two icons of science fiction are willing to grace the t.v show with their presence.

I am done with my confessional, you should tune in and watch, it is cute and harmless, good for when your brain doesn’t want stress or worries.

bi-polar disorder, Carrie Fisher, Craig Fergeson, postaday2013, Princess Leia, Star Wars

I haven’t seen Carrie Fisher in ages and so when I saw that she was a guest on my boy Craig Fergeson’s show, I was instantly intrigued. I know that Carrie Fisher has had to deal with bi-polar disorder which is a challenging mental illness and I was curious to see how she was doing. The last time that I saw her in a movie was, I think back in “When Harry met Sally” and I loved her character as Sally’s best friend. After that I know that she has kept busy writing novels and putting together a one woman show based on her own life. Her show, like her books, have been successes for her critically, so I wasn’t very worried that her creativity wasn’t being fed. I vaguely remember that she had done a weight loss program and was doing very well; having lost the weight and keeping it off.

So I was happy to see her come out, engage with Craig and be happy, self-deprecating, witty and upbeat. She has been a force for many fans since the 1970’s; I remember thinking of Princess Leia as a hero in the same vein as Hans Solo or Luke Skywalker. Princess Leia was no damsel in distress, she was powerful, brave and noble in her own right. I would say that in dealing with her own set of challenges, Carrie has shown us that she is also strong and brave. Not only is being bi-polar a difficult journey to go through but admitting it to the world and being very open about the various therapies and how they have affected you is such a courageous tour de force, I admire her.

Craig was such a gracious host. You could tell that he really enjoyed her body of work and he was very sensitive to her experience with her bi-polarism that she was being so bitingly funny about. He kept on saying “Carrie I am trying to be sensitive to what you have gone through and I know that you can say whatever you want but have some pity for me, I am walking a fine line” and Carrie laughed and hugged him. You could also tell that she had some very real affection for Craig as a friend and fellow comedian and former addict. It was a joy to see the two of them enjoying the interview and each other’s company.

Top 5 Films

Willow Osgood

I have two French films that come to mind instantly. My Father’s Glory “La Gloire de mon Pere” and My Mother’s Castle “Le Chateau de ma Mere”
The remaining three are tough because there are the serious films that make you think and then there are the favorites that don’t necessarily do anything but make you happy. The three that make me happy are:
Princess Bride
Willow
Lady Hawke
Serious films, I would say Philadelphia, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List. Then I think of science fiction and there are Star Wars, Fifth Element and Lord of the Rings. I know that I haven’t answered the question correctly but oh well. These types of questions are just too difficult.
