My husband and I went to see Star Trek Beyond again, we needed an escape and there isn’t much better escapism than Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek universe. I have been freaking out a little, tomorrow we have an appointment with my new thoracic oncologist, so I needed two hours to lose myself into space, with a crew who demonstrates courage and determination beyond the odds.

I actually enjoyed it better the second time around, I had so much less stress for everyone, I could sit back and enjoy all the details that I had missed the first time. The dialogue didn’t lose its edge or its humor, I still laughed at the back and forth between Bones and Spock. Justin Lin the director did an amazing job, I’m sure J.J Abrahms gave him a high five at the end.

Lieutenant O’hura, in my opinion, is so well written as a female character.  She is in love, but doesn’t lose her identity, she is widely respected for her intelligence, her skills at linguistics and her combat training. She holds her own amongst the men and they show how high in their esteem she rests. I love watching great ensembles at play, I’m definitely going to miss Anton who played Checkov so well. We sat through until the end of the credits just to see the dedications to Leonard Nimoy and to Anton, both actors will be deeply missed in the Star Trek family.

Captain Kirk, J.J Abrams, Mister Spock, postaday2013, Star Trek

I won’t waste anyone’s time, I loved it. I loved the chemistry between all of the actors, I loved the message, I loved the direction, I loved the special effects. I didn’t love the 3-D and that is the last movie that I will ever have to see as a 3-D. 3-D gives me horrendous headaches and I didn’t find that the 3-D contributed more than was necessary. Any how, it is available in 2-D for those who, like me, prefer their entertainment in two dimensional form.

There was tons of Star Trek historical references, J.J did an awesome job paying homage to the Star Trek fans, I really tip my hat off to him. I am a huge science fiction fan and J.J Abrams is one of the best science fiction directors out there. I really enjoyed the movie, I didn’t want it to end.

I am not going to comment on the story whatsoever because I don’t want to give anything away. Suffice it to say, I loved it.

I am giving a shout out to my friend Tilly. Tilly, I got to see the preview of Ender’s Game on the Big Screen, it was Awesome. Ben Kingsley with his tattooed face on the Big Screen Amazing! It never gets better than Harrison Ford and his gruff voice on the Big Screen. It’s coming out in November.
I know that you shared the video, but like all great science fiction movies and stories, it does so much better on the big screen. You are going to love it.:)

I am already looking forward to the next installment of Star Trek. I feel sorry for the next director, if J.J Abrams doesn’t do it, his act is a tough act to follow.

My crazy guilty pleasure

One of the new shows this year is Neighbors on ABC. It’s about a human family who unwittingly move into a gated community that had been taken over by alien shipwrecked aliens inhabiting human form. Jaime Gertz has been a favorite actress of mine since I was in my late teens, early twenties. She plays Debra the mom, happily married to Marty, they have three children. They find out that they are living in an alien community and hijinks ensues. The alien family who decide to adopt Debra and Marty Weaver as friends, are named Jackie Joyce Girney and Larry Byrd. The aliens all named each other after sports figures.

Tonight is a very special episode, George Takei from Star Trek fame and Mark Hamil from Star Wars fame are guest appearing as supreme commanders checking in to see how the mission is going. I must not be the only one who considers this show as a guilty pleasure when two icons of science fiction are willing to grace the t.v show with their presence.

I am done with my confessional, you should tune in and watch, it is cute and harmless, good for when your brain doesn’t want stress or worries.
