movie, nightmares, postaday2014, scary

When was the last time you watched something so scary, cringe-worthy, or unbelievably tacky — in a movie, on TV, or in real life — you had to cover your eyes?

The movie Sin City is the one movie that I can never, ever, ever watch again. It scared me so much that I had nightmares for days and it actually kept me, of all people, from sleeping at night. Even to this day, any reference to the movie, is enough to make me paint the inside of my mind with pure white paint.

I am not going to write about what scared me in the movie, I dare not go there with my memories or images in my imagination because I don’t want to have to spend time tonight painting the inside of my mind again. It was way too scary and unsettling for my taste.

Here is a link if you are interested. I can’t bear to watch it.

postaday2014, scary, strangers, stress

When you do something scary or stressful — bungee jumping, public speaking, etc. — do you prefer to be surrounded by friends or by strangers? Why?

Aside from my husband; he’s allowed everywhere with me. I would rather do scary or stressful things in the midst of strangers because I keep a stiff upper lip far easier with strangers than if I am surrounded by friends or family. My friends and family would serve as too much of a distraction and that would pull the focus off the task at hand. I love my family and I love being with my friends, but since I don’t do stress or scary very well, I would much prefer the anonymity of strangers; no expectations, no pressure and no feedback.

I am writing this post envisioning the idea of bungee jumping and how if my family were present, I would not be handling the whole situation very well. I have a serious fear of heights and being surrounded by strangers might be the only way that I could focus my fear into a place where it would serve as adrenaline instead of a paralytic emotional response.

Some people do well with stress and scary situations; I unfortunately don’t, so I try to order my life in such a way as to mitigate the amounts of stress and scary that occur in my daily life.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of getting a brand new haircut that actually pleases you. I think that the feeling makes you feel not only lighter, but younger. I received a few compliments as soon as I was unleashed from the chair by Rudy, the hair stylist. The owner of the Salon said to me “wow, you needed that, boy do you look a lot younger” I smiled and thanked him for the compliment. It didn’t quite sound like one but I knew what he meant. When he saw me prior to the haircut and the magic water, I guess I was kind of looking tired and rundown. As soon as I got a good two inches off the length, my hair bounced up and resumed being perky. It was dragging a little and so I think that it was also dragging on my features. Anyway I am good for at least four months, so I can go back to wash, rinse and go. I was still just washing, rinsing and going, but the results weren’t too nice. Now I will emerge from the house with a more youthful appearance and glow. Hooray for me and my hair.

American Horror Story The Asylum, dark forest, imagination, postaday2012, scary

Oh boy am I silly. Tonight we got home at 6:30, it was dark and little Jack needed walking which is never a problem. Now up here in Blandford, there aren’t any street lamps in the park so we were walking by moonlight and starlight, a romantic setting that quickly turned into a potential horror movie setting in my imagination. As Jack and I were walking up the steep hill, as we do twice a day normally in daylight, my mind started wandering as it does during all of my walks and it went to “American Horror Story The Asylum” . This is a show that has garnered a lot of attention since its debut on the FX channel last year. Jessica Lange, a wonderful actress in my opinion, won both the Golden Globe and an Emmy for her work in the series. This year, the show is set in an insane asylum run by the Catholic Church in the 1950’s.

It is never a good idea to think of scary movies or scary t.v shows when you are walking in the dark in a small Town’s park set right near the woods. At first when we were walking, I was thinking that the bears and the coyotes are probably all settled in for the cold and the only thing in the park at night would be the raccoons and skunks. It was while walking past the picnic table that my mind flashed to potential human predators, I pooh-poohed the idea and then my mind went to “American Horror Story” and the walk was done for me.

The setting is in an insane asylum this season, so we are seeing actual people behaving as monsters but now we are seeing that not all the monsters are human, we aren’t sure what the monsters are that are lurking in the shadows and in the tunnels. This is the t.v show that invaded my mind during my walk and scared me into turning Jack and I right around in our tracks down the hill and back home.

I scared myself silly this evening, a silly goose who watches a lot of t.v.

  • Stephen King’s House

I just read a haunted tale co-written by Stephen King and his son. It is called the Tall Grass, I read it in Esquire magazine. It completely turned me off from helping anyone who sounds lost in the mist and beyond my sight. A brother and sister embark on a cross country journey in their beat up old car and stop on the side of the road for a rest, they hear a little boy’s voice calling for help from within an expanse of very tall grass. They, being kind souls, go off into the tall grass to try to help the little boy, only to find themselves separated from each other and the road immediately. They, each in their forced isolation, spend what seems hours upon hours trying to find each other and the boy but to no avail, they start to suffer from hunger and thirst and I will not spoil the ending for you if you come across the short story but keep in mind, this is Stephen King we are talking about. I got scared reading it.
