4th of July, postaday2015, relaxation

It’s a nice cool, breezy day in Blandford this 4th of July, a perfect day to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Yesterday I spent most of the afternoon getting dirty, planting new vegetable plants and replacing the dead annuals with some new ones, so today I am taking a break to sit back and enjoy sitting, I’m going to read and watch t.v while it mists outside. Perhaps later this afternoon, I’ll put a few steaks on the grill, I’m not decided yet, but it’s always nice to have options to ponder.

I hope that everyone enjoys their Saturday wherever it may be and that it is a safe one as well. Happy 4th!

The day after turkey day

The infamous day after Thanksgiving. To some Americans, it’s back to work as usual, for others it is still a vacation day, but for so many die hard shoppers, it is Black Friday. The day of the ultimate sales for the upcoming holidays, I have never gone shopping on Black Friday specifically, on purpose, to take advantage of sales. I dislike shopping on a good day so I am definitely not going to go when you are guaranteed mob-like settings and scenario’s.

The baby girl had a doctor’s appointment today, because with her being away at college, these little school breaks are the only opportunity to squeeze in health maintenance, so this had the three of us out of the house. On our way back from the doctor’s, someone asked for a stop into T.J Max. That store I didn’t mind, because they do not abuse their employees as far as I know. On the other hand, I signed a petition supporting the Walmart workers who went on strike today due to poor working conditions, forcing them to take on larger percentage’s of their health care coverage thus making their take home pay even closer to poverty level, all this while the company is reporting sky high profits. Moreover, a large percentage of Walmart employees have to depend on food stamps to make ends meet. We were not going to Walmart today or in the future if we can help it.

I’ll get off my soap box, I am suffering from a Thanksgiving preparing, baking and cooking hangover. I woke up this morning feeling really slow and headachy. I think that it was the adrenaline of being in the kitchen for hours and coordinating everything to the minute and even the day before Thanksgiving was packed full of chores and activity, so I am pooped, but in a good way. I spent time doing something that I love to do, cooking and baking, it makes for a very good tiredness.

Best vacation ever?

Acapulco, Mexico, postaday2012, relaxation, vacation, water ski

The first time that I went on vacation on my own was during college with two good friends, the first trip that I planned without my family was very important. It was a milestone if you will because this trip was solely financed by me with my hard earned money, as it always seems to work out, things mean more when you are the one who paid for it. The appreciation is much richer, my friends and I spent a week and a half in Acapulco, Mexico. It was beautiful, I learned how to water ski there, we relaxed and spent our days without a care in the world. A true vacation.

Happy Independence Day to every one! I had a very nice one. My hubby and I had an absolutely lovely day of doing nothing in particular. That doesn’t mean that we did nothing, we did a few things but only when we felt like it. It was beautiful. My hubby felt the inclination for pancakes and so he made us pancakes. He makes very nice pancakes. I took care of Rex and Jack since they are our babies and there is no getting around that. The baby girl went off to the baby boy’s place to hang out with him for a little bit, he had work later on in the day.

My hubby and I were relaxing in the living room watching Tuesday night’s episode of Franklin and Bash when the baby girl brought over a friend of her’s plus her 10 month old baby girl. My hubby and I got to dust off our baby entertaining abilities for a few hours. Once you have babies, you don’t forget, you don’t forget how small their little toes are or how cute their little fingers are and how sweet they smell. My hubby and I alternated holding her and bouncing her up and down. I fed her and she returned the favor by spitting up on me, which you do forget to be prepared for after all these years. Navigating the sensibilities of the baby versus our over protective German Shepard Rex, who jumped right into baby sitting mode, and little Jack who thought that we got him a new sibling, wasn’t easy. Rex went up to the baby, licked her face with his sandpaper tongue so quickly, he caught everyone by surprise, especially the baby. She yelled at Rex for that one, we had a good laugh at her expense but she was a trooper because even though Rex must have seemed like a huge bear to her, when she got over her temper, she crawled over to Rex and she really liked Jack and his kisses. I have to admit that when she and her mom left, I was a little tired, It’s been a while since I’ve carried a baby for a few hours non stop and keeping the dogs in check without ruffling their feathers or the baby’s because you don’t want the baby to think that dogs are scary. I am definitely happy to be the mother of two children who are not in any rush to make me a grandmother. They are far too young and it would be full time grandmotherhood, no thank you. It was a lot of fun though holding the baby and getting smiles and laughter and hugging and giving her kisses. Did I mention the fact that my hubby and I, we love babies. All in good time, which for us would be in a decade or so.
