Daily prompt: Third from the top

Head to “Blogs I Follow” in the Reader. Scroll down to the third post in the list. Take the third sentence in the post, and work it into your own.

I have had a few epiphanies over the years; the biggest one is that life is all about perception. I have extended my epiphany to apply not only to belief systems, but to our legal systems, our government systems and economic systems as well. I firmly believe that everything takes on a new shade when seen this way. An excellent example is the ongoing debate on The Affordable Care Act, where the conservative right proclaims that this is another example of government tyranny where everyone must opt-in. On the other hand, there is no law prohibiting opt-out. The conservative right works very tirelessly to distract the public from paying attention to the issue that there are several ways to either be in compliance with the law or pay the penalty.  The real issue here is whether you believe that health care is a privilege or a right; depending on where you stand on the question is what  will color your perception of the debate. My perception is that health care is a right, along with life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

This was my tired attempt with this prompt. I am feeling less than inspired today, perhaps because I am feeling so, so tired. Tomorrow will be a new day.

Troubles with Plinky

Plinky.com has been my go to for prompts since early on in 2011, I know that they are affiliated in some way with WordPress because many of their prompts show up sooner or later on WordPress in their Daily Post. Having a go to for ideas is pretty great when you want to maintain posting something on a daily basis and you find yourself stuck or short on inspiration. It is precisely for that reason, that I try really hard to not complain or criticize the prompters. They help me so the least that I can do is take their help without complaint. 🙂

However, over the past two days, I have had nothing but trouble with Plinky. It started the day before yesterday, I tried to log in with my Plinky account to answer the prompt and cross post it over to WordPress and for the second time now, they lost my account. I had to re-register, I know that my account had been either erased or permanently lost because I was able to, once again, register using my email, my user name and the password. The next trouble that I had was I answered the prompt, it prompted you to take the third line from a song and make it your post. I took the time to past a link to a music video, write a whole bunch a words surrounding the third line of a song, clicked on the answer button and nothing, it went off into cyberspace without getting attached to anything or anywhere. This morning, I tried to answer the prompt on Plinky thinking that yesterday was a fluke, and it still didn’t work. I wrote a post related to patriotism, since the prompt was “are you patriotic and what does patriotism mean to you?”. Perhaps it was the universe telling me that my thoughts were too dark, I basically was saying that shouldn’t patriotism be more about how we, as a nation treat each other and shouldn’t we be in this together? I also mentioned that I find it hard to accept that there are some who only associate patriotism with the military and being the best. I expressed it much better than that, but like I said, it got lost. I got frustrated losing my two posts, I wrote them as I normally do, relying on the stream of words that flow out of my head, I liked how it came out, so to lose it was annoying. I know that I could rewrite it, but I can’t remember exactly how I wrote it, I know that I liked it, but the stream is lost to me and it is frustrating. Silly I know, but I wanted to share my frustrations with the internet today.

Tell us something most people probably don’t know about you.

I was playing a party game with a bunch of friends, it was a fun game or what I remember was fun at least. We all had to write down something about ourselves according to the prompts and then as the pieces of paper were read aloud, we had to guess who answered which prompt. It was so funny especially when it came to them trying to guess who had written the answer to a certain prompt and no one guessed that it was little ole me. The expressions on their faces when I had to own up to the answer was priceless. Pure shock all around, lol.

I think that the prompt that I answered was what was the most shocking thing that I had ever done and this is what I wrote.

When I was in grammar school, during the eighth grade, my friends Patrick, Jose, Candace and Rosemarie and I would creep on our hands and knees out of our classroom and sneak into the empty wing of the school, this was all done under the “watchful” eyes of the nuns of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we would then set up our poker game in the stairwell. We did this knowing full well that upstairs and downstairs, there lurked incredible danger, Sister Irene our principal was always on the prowl and she could have caught us at any time, it was dangerous but we took the risk. Our poker game, to make the stakes even higher, was always strip poker. Granted we were in eighth grade and my friend Patrick always dealt and rigged the game to make Rosemarie and Candace lose, I habitually lost my shoes and that’s it and then we would creep back to our classes to play yet again another day. There was a time that the clang of her keys gave her away from downstairs and we all quietly cleared out of the stairwell. Patrick and I hid in the boys lavatory, and we waited quietly until she finished her rounds. I am not exaggerating when I say that we were courting trouble, Sister Irene was not a nun to trifle with, she believed in severe corporal punishment. I think that we became danger junkies because this didn’t happen just once or twice, it was on a daily basis that we played.

My friends were all so shocked because according to them, I am the last person in the world that they would have pegged for committing this type of rebellious act of gambling, ducking out of class and on top of it the “stripping”. That was the extent of my life of wayward behavior in grammar school.

The following is the latest update on my technodifficulties with my Plinky.com account. I wrote my tale of woe to the service people and I received a very prompt response. Krista from the tech department at WordPress, Plinky is an offshoot of WordPress, wrote back and said that they tried but they couldn’t find my account anywhere. I wrote back and reconfirmed all of my log in information and Krista replied that she was not giving up but it might take several days to clear this up. I appreciate their prompt response especially given the fact that this is a free service provided by our good friends at the wonderful world of WordPress.

I am curious to see how this will resolve itself; if they will find me in their archives or if I will have to establish a new account. It is curious that they can’t find my information but we shall see.

Plinky’s latest prompt is to write about the latest nightmare that you remember, I can’t recall having a nightmare recently. The dreams that I remember these past few weeks have all been either good ones where I am in France or puzzling dreams that really don’t make any sense. I haven’t had a nightmare in years. I suppose that is a very good thing, my subconscious is at peace or that is how I choose to see it.

Gifts, better received or given?

One of my first friends on the blogosphere gave me a lovely prompt since I have been experiencing technodifficulties with Plinky.com. You can find my friend at weescoops.wordpress.com. She has a wonderful blog full of beautiful poetry, book reviews and musings. Her question was about gifts and the thought behind the gift and which one meant the most. I took that question and went with it in a slightly different direction. I have always preferred giving presents over receiving them and one of the favorite presents that I have given someone was the time that my hubby and I presented my mother with a silk scarf that I had picked out at the Chanel boutique for Mother’s Day one year. It made such a strong impression on me because my track record for my mother’s gifts and their success was pretty poor. My mother has very nice taste and for some reason I always fell short of the desired effect until this scarf. This scarf was a very bold choice, strong colors and I was quite nervous while she was opening the package, her eyes lit up at the sight of the colors, quality of the silk and handiwork that one can always appreciate with Chanel. I was so much happier after she opened her present that I didn’t even register what I had received that day.

Slim pickings in the prompt department

As I said, today there are some slim pickings in the prompt department on either of the websites; Plinky or the Daily Post at WordPress. I am still having issues with Plink, I e-mailed them about my dilemma, but I was still planning to respond to their prompt over at WordPress. I was disappointed to see that today’s prompt was a repeat, “What would you un-invent?”, I have already answered this question several times in its different forms; the cell phone. Over at WordPress, I think that the DailyPost had either “describe your most special meal in exquisite detail” and I know that I have done this one more than once, or write about your VIP person and I have already done that as well. So I got nothing, well not really nothing. I suppose that I could come up with something else besides the weather today.

Spring forward! Today we woke up to one more hour of sunshine since last night we turned the clocks ahead. What a difference an hour makes in your outlook. It is 6:30 in the evening and it is still light out,

See what a difference an hour makes. It already feels that much closer to spring. I am not talking about the weather, I am talking about seasonal moods and how daylight can lift a mood like nothing else can. Hooray for longer days and shorter nights!

  • Bye, Plinky!
  • Fishermen in Port Salut catching my dinner!

What! Plinky don’t go! Your prompts made writing everyday so much easier. I will miss you, why are you leaving? Did you find something else? I know that nothing lasts forever but it seemed so brief, our time together. I feel as if you are breaking up with me, I was faithful. I answered you everyday. Bah, humbug.
