I think I broke my brain

I’m not kidding, since I finished my 50,000 words and Thanksgiving dinner, my brain has felt foggy and syrupy. I think that I can safely attribute it to overdoing it. So this is why I am resting, my brain does feel kind of broken. I went to bed last night with a headache and woke up with it slowly becoming migraine-like. I dragged myself to the store for Ibuprofen and four caplets later, it is down to a slow thud.

The reason that I wrote that I broke my brain is that I am pretty sure that my last few posts have been awful and non-sensical. I can’t wait for my brain to come back to normal, it will be nice to have a refreshed brain , it would make writing more enjoyable. It stinks when you are writing and your mind feels syrupy. Syrupy is fine for pancakes, not for writing.

Arghh, maybe this is the onset of a cold, noooooooooo! I hope not. Anyway, I hope that everyone has a very nice day and hopefully tomorrow, my brain will feel better, more alert, more spry and back in business for better writing.

As I was walking to the Apple store on Bolyston Street in Boston, I looked up and I was taken with the beauty and clarity of the blue sky right above my head. Seeing the moon showing its face with a trail of pristine white streaking through the blue, I was compelled to take a picture.

I had to go to the Apple store because my iPad went into a coma again, this time to never see the light of day again. My tech genius Kevin was very helpful and kind, he replaced my iPad with a new one because the old one was at fault, no cost to me. So I am writing with my new iPad. I also went to an Urgent Care center because I self diagnosed myself with a kidney infection and I was correct, so I am on a strong dose of antibiotics and I should be as good as new in the coming week. A full day and the doctor told me that I need to rest and drink a lot of liquids, which I am doing and will do for the next week and beyond. Your body is your temple. I need to listen to that saying more often.

Click over to your favorite blog, and pick out the 4th and 14th words (that aren’t “the” or “an”). Drop them into this phrase: “_____ is the new _____.” There’s your post title. Now write!

I hate playing favorites but I will head over to one of mine, she is kind, nurturing and makes me laugh each and every time I read any one of her posts. I am heading over there right now, http://www.thelaughinghousewife.wordpress.com.

Blogging is the New Me. What a powerful phrase. It is one that I can definitely identify with, once I let my curiosity lead me down the writing path with WordPress and I committed to writing daily, I can seriously say that blogging is the new me. I love blogging and writing, I stumbled onto a large, welcoming and powerful community and my life is richer and fuller because of it. Writing has replaced therapy and to have my therapist break up with me because writing had done for me what hours of talking never did, I acknowledge my therapists’ professional integrity in letting me go off with her blessing.

Even if blogging is not someone’s thing, I would always recommend keeping a journal or a diary, even if you never read anything that you have written, just the act of putting emotions, thoughts, hopes and dreams down on paper makes a big difference in your emotional temperature. I find that for myself the simple act of writing chases away my angst, anxiety and fears and I feel so much better just writing down the simplest and mundane things about myself and my life.

On another note, I highly recommend visiting TheLaughingHousewife and if you want to acquaint yourself with another friend of mine, I also urge you to visit http://www.weescoops.wordpress.com. She is a fascinating woman and a wonderful poet.

I get a tickle out of Twitter

As I said, I get a tickle out of Twitter. I don’t really understand Twitter or why it is so popular and that is precisely why it tickles me whenever Twitter alerts me that I have a new follower. Not understanding a social media platform and still getting followers is something that strikes me as funny. Here I am posting away, minding my own business and some nice person looking through the Twittersphere picks up on my Tweet, I guess, and must say “this tweet looks interesting, I think that I will follow this person”. The whole thing tickles me. I get alerts from Twitter when they think that there is a person who I might be interested in following and as of now I am following 30 people. They are involved in progressive journalism, food politics, environmental activism and my alma mater New York University. I may be a follower of certain Twitter people but I don’t look at their tweets all day long, that is the part that I don’t understand. Do all these Twitter people spend their time reading tweets all day long? Either way, all this is interesting and I am learning which I do like to do. You may be wondering how I got into Twitter if I don’t get it, the way I got into Twitter is through some sage advice.

My dear friend Tilly Bud TheLaughingHousewife recently advised me to register with Twitter and to publicize both my blogs through Twitter. She has wonderful tips and advice for amateur bloggers so I pay attention. Registering on Twitter is so easy; just as easy as registering onto WordPress so boom, I entered the Twittersphere. This is probably around two months ago and so far I have five followers; two of them count but not really, because one is my hubby and the other is my other friend Jackie at Getreadingnow.org so they follow me because they know me. The other three, got me all excited, because these three Twitter people randomly found me through something I wrote; one of them is a Web Designer, the other is the alumni group at N.Y.U and the other is an activist film production company. It makes me happy to think that more people out there are reading my thoughts and opinions and are interested enough to want to read more, very exciting.

If my blog went viral

  • Your blog just went viral. Ok, sorry, not yet. But just imagine. What’s the one post you’d like new readers to see and remember you by? Write that post.
  • The Ultimate Post

I’ve written a few that I wish had gone viral in a big way; the ones about my trip to France that the baby girl and I took this summer for instance. I really enjoyed writing those posts, describing all of the foods we were eating, the countryside we were traveling through and my incredible family. There were also a few posts that were on a more serious note such as when I had anxiety over getting a biopsy after an unclear mammogram, writing about it helped me expunge the fear and the anxiety. Moreover receiving the good news afterwards of all clear and sharing it via my blog made the good news even more concrete.
I don’t know if this answered or even satisfied the prompt, but even if none of my posts ever go viral, I still find so much satisfaction and I reap so many benefits writing through my blog and interacting with my readers, that I seriously doubt that I will ever stop.

Struggles with posting on my own.

abandonned, insecurities, postaday2012, Posting, small group, subscriber, subscribers

I received a message from our most wise prompt issuer. Scott basically said do not fret, we at WordPress PostADay are working on plans for 2012. That perked me up because I have felt adrift since the end of 2011. I have been posting my usual comments to articles written on Huffington Post and I have been posting about more mundane things such as the weather, cleaning and today my insecurities about my writing abilities or rather my abilities to generate interesting, thoughtful, clever posts. I know why I’m a little sad, I lost one of my subscribers. To be more clear, instead of having my usual 13 subscribers listed yesterday morning, there were only 12. I was abandoned as a writer and it made me sad. I can’t help but wonder, is my blog too boring, not deep enough or any other reason. It almost feels like a breakup, what did I do, what did I write or not write. I know that I’ll get over it and I won’t stop writing but it is not a good feeling when one of your small group of subscribers ups and leaves you.
