New Year, postaday2015

Happy New Year’s to all of my family and friends, on FaceBook and WordPress, I hope this New Year will bring all of you much health and happiness.

New York is a balmy 48 degrees, magical and vibrant, the energy humming everywhere, good cheer emanating from the Holiday season, it’s one of my favorite times of year to explore the city.

As my husband and I are walking hand in hand throughout the city, I am consciously drinking in all of the sights, because no matter how many times I have walked down these city streets, there is always something that I may have missed. This city is a city to discover and rediscover, a city to never be taken for granted, I see this now and it makes me love New York even more.

Happy 2015

New Year, postaday2015

Today is the first day of a brand new year. Last night we all, the four of us, said good bye to 2014 quietly watching the ball drop in Times Square the best way that I know how, on t.v.

Today we are going to feast on paella, the one that I have made over and over again through the years, filled with chicken, chorizo sausage, mussels, shrimp, littleneck clams. My husband is probably going to do most of the cooking because when I am tired, he jumps right in to help and he loves cooking anyway, he is very talented in the kitchen, much more creative than I am. I like my recipes, I usually don’t follow them word for word, but I like the structure behind the recipe; whereas my husband lets his creative juices flow and he has no fear about what the results might be, I, on the other hand, am ruled by my insecurities so I fret and stress when I really don’t need to, it is a horrible habit and something that I need to work on, a work in progress as I have said on many occasion. 🙂

New Year, postaday2014, time

Today is the first day of 2014, Happy New Year everyone! I am a little blue today having said good bye to last year. The first of the new year always leaves me a little melancholic and sad. Last year, I was used to and had gotten to know it quite well and now I had to bid it adieu, not even au revoir. Au revoir in French means “till we see each other again” it isn’t as final as good bye. Adieu means “to God” so maybe that does mean good bye in all of its finality, the word God is in there and where would we be seeing God together, but in heaven? I’m just thinking out loud here. Suffice it to say, I don’t like saying good bye to time spent, I wish that there was a way to hold onto time how you wanted to; I’m sure that there are periods of time that many of us would love to speed up, sort of ripping a bandaid off if you will, and there are periods of time that many of us would love to slow down frame by frame. That could be a nice fantasy to have, being one’s own time manager. Actually Doctor Who has a great name the “Time Lords” I’d like to be my own Time Lord.

Well, today I’m still getting used to the idea of 2014. I wonder how many times I will write 2013, before I get it right, I hope that it won’t number in the hundreds, lol!!!

Here is to a brand spanking new year for us all. Cheers!

day of rest, New Year, picture, postday2013, self portrait, stuffed mushrooms

Today is the first day of 2013 and it has been a restful one; a beautiful day of rest and relaxation. I had my lovely breakfast of two pieces of rye toast with fig preserves and 3 cups of coffee. I read all of my e-mails, I wrote my daily comment on the state of affairs going on during this fiscal cliff crisis; drives me nuts, and I answered the Plinky prompt. Like I said; a lovely late morning.

My hubby and I are spending time together as always though my hubby and the baby girl watched episode after episode of Doctor Who while I caught up with my episodes of General Hospital. Jack and I did our mile long walk twice already and he was fed his vittels, so he’s a happy camper.

I took a small amount of time to make stuffed mushrooms the way my mother-in-law or Nonnie as we called her, made them. They are the easiest to make; saute two onions and four cloves of garlic, both finely minced, in a mixture of olive oil and butter, add the mushroom stems finely chopped to the onion and garlic along with some dried oregano and thyme and saute until soft. I then add Italian seasoned breadcrumbs with some more butter to the onion, garlic, mushroom mixture until the mixture binds together and then I lightly season with salt and pepper. I stuff the mushroom caps and put them into a 350 oven for about twenty minutes and voila stuffed mushrooms.

Now I am sitting down writing about this beautiful day and the start of a new year. I am not even thinking beyond the next hour; that is how restful this day is.:)
