Every time I come to visit my mother, one of the things that I do is take a nice walk around Astoria Park, it’s great exercise and the view is really nice. Even though I grew up with the view practically in my backyard, I never get tired of it, in my opinion one of the prettiest vantage places to gaze at the New York City skyline is right from Astoria Park, looking across the East River and at the city.
At night this same skyline is truly spectacular with all the lights twinkling from the buildings, the Triborough Bridge (now the RFK bridge), the Chrysler building and the Empire State Building. It truly is magnificent to see, you really get the sense that New York is definitely the city that never sleeps, the energy that emanates from across the river is very powerful. I’m sure that those who are standing in Astoria Park at night may well feel that they are missing out on some party or something when they see those twinkling lights.
I love the light show but I am still happiest in bed ready to go to sleep. I’ll leave the parties for the younger ones.
