Write a story about yourself from the perspective of an object, thing, animal, or another person.

Hi, my name is Jack and my Maman takes care of me. I love her very much. She feeds me and takes care of me, we sleep together. She sometimes gets me wet and puts smelly stuff on my body and puts more wet stuff on me. Then she rubs me down and I have to run around to get back to normal. She also put things in my mouth, sometimes I like it and sometimes I don’t but my Maman is always nice to me. We go for walks together. I love walking with my Maman but she walks very fast and that makes me walk fast, I like walking slow. Maman always has her toy on her lap,she forgets that her lap is for me so I have to push her toy away. She lets me do that, she moves her toy so that I can sit on her lap. She talks to me and she scratches my ears, I love when she scratches behind my ears. My Maman knows how to make me feel safe and warm. I love and she loves me.

Anachronism (noun): an error in chronology; a person or thing that’s chronologically out of place. Write a story in which a person or thing is out of place, or recount a time when you felt out of place.

There have been so many interesting novels written about a person being out of time such as “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”, this excellent novel has spawned countless adaptations and variations, it’s easy to lose track. The most basic explanation is that the mere concept is so intriguing and curious. The late Michael Crichton wrote Timeline about a scientist and his team seeking to time travel but for nefarious purposes and at the end the evil man behind the team of scientists learns a most valuable lesson. There is no place like home. Dorothy herself said it best.

In all of these stories, the principal character most often simply wants to go back home where his or her’s realities make sense to them. These stories make the whole idea of the grass is always greener on the other side stand a little on its head. In the end it is always the sense of family, of belonging and one’s own comfort level that is what makes one’s own personal timeline so special and why rarely would someone pick another timeline to spend the rest of their days. The curiosity and adventure wears thin after a while, and the normalcy and the familiar are things to be missed and appreciated.

You have the power to enact a single law. What would it be?

If I had the power to enact one law and only one, I think that it would be related to the gun situation that is unique to the United States. Part of our cultural legacy is a very strong gun culture embodied within a mythic worship of the second amendment. What frustrates me so much is that almost all second amendment fans gloss over the first phrase -A Well-Regulated Militia and go right to the right to bear arms.

I would definitely take my opportunity to write a law that would make it mandatory to have universal background checks, no loop holes whatsoever, two week waiting period, civilians would not have access to assault weapons or high capacity magazines and there would be a national gun registry.

I know for a fact that many who reside in the “red” states would be up in arms, pun intended, over my multi-pronged gun law. I would be very curious as to how long it would stay in effect and how radically the NRA would react over its passage. I would be so gratified if, even just parts of it would stay in place.

I thought of this because I read the most distressing account of a Newton CT family’s disillusionment with the failure regarding any passage of gun related legislation. The account has followed one family and their profound grief as first they lost their son and then they lose faith that their son’s death will ever have any meaning whatsoever and that he had his life cut short and end of story.

That would be my one and only law.

Three people walk into a bar, they stand closely together at the head of the steps looking left and right, obviously not sure which way to go. The bar that they chose to enter is the Horseshoe Bar in the Alphabet City, N.Y, calling it unique is an understatement to say the least. The Horseshoe Bar is famous in the neighborhood for being fiercely protective of its decidedly local flavor, bohemian feel and low key atmosphere. The patrons aren’t looking for flash, pizazz or celebrity, they have their home away from home and that is how they want to keep it.

These three individuals are obviously put off by the layout of the joint; a large horseshoe of a bar with beautiful wood varnished by years of hand rubbing, the oils from the multitude of hands producing a rich mellow hue on the bar’s surface. It was obvious to the usual patrons that these three were like fish out of water, definitely not in their normal environment. They were stuck in space, unsure which side to choose. No one was sure why they chose their neighborhood bar to enter, it didn’t have a fancy sign on the outside, it wasn’t known outside of Alphabet City and if you walked past it quickly, you wouldn’t even know it.

The three meekly descended the steps and made their way to the middle of the horseshoe and tried to get the barman’s attention. The barman, probably sensing their discomfort, quickly got to them, looked at the tall one n the eye and asked “what can I get you folks?” the tall one said “3 beers, please”.

The tale has started and who knows where it will lead.

American Horror Story The Asylum, dark forest, imagination, postaday2012, scary

Oh boy am I silly. Tonight we got home at 6:30, it was dark and little Jack needed walking which is never a problem. Now up here in Blandford, there aren’t any street lamps in the park so we were walking by moonlight and starlight, a romantic setting that quickly turned into a potential horror movie setting in my imagination. As Jack and I were walking up the steep hill, as we do twice a day normally in daylight, my mind started wandering as it does during all of my walks and it went to “American Horror Story The Asylum” . This is a show that has garnered a lot of attention since its debut on the FX channel last year. Jessica Lange, a wonderful actress in my opinion, won both the Golden Globe and an Emmy for her work in the series. This year, the show is set in an insane asylum run by the Catholic Church in the 1950’s.

It is never a good idea to think of scary movies or scary t.v shows when you are walking in the dark in a small Town’s park set right near the woods. At first when we were walking, I was thinking that the bears and the coyotes are probably all settled in for the cold and the only thing in the park at night would be the raccoons and skunks. It was while walking past the picnic table that my mind flashed to potential human predators, I pooh-poohed the idea and then my mind went to “American Horror Story” and the walk was done for me.

The setting is in an insane asylum this season, so we are seeing actual people behaving as monsters but now we are seeing that not all the monsters are human, we aren’t sure what the monsters are that are lurking in the shadows and in the tunnels. This is the t.v show that invaded my mind during my walk and scared me into turning Jack and I right around in our tracks down the hill and back home.

I scared myself silly this evening, a silly goose who watches a lot of t.v.
