My new favorite song

I am always late coming to the show, but I have finally stumbled onto the Happy song by Pharrell Williams and I am smitten.

Everything about the song is uplifting; the lyrics, the beat and the video itself. Listening to the song pushes me to a wonderful place, away from dark and stressful thoughts. Maybe I have too much time on my hands, but my mind has been going to the place where I question a lot of things about the brevity of life, our place within the world, our place in the universe, what it means, if anything and sometimes my innate joie de vivre gets tamped down.

The universe might have been looking in on my dark thoughts because lately I have been hearing the Happy song in the background in commercials on practically every single channel that I watch. The beat is contagious so I went to youtube and watched the official video, Pharrell is adorable!

I have registered the song as my internal background music in my head so I have been sitting and walking with a slight smile on my face because honestly you can’t frown or furrow your brow when the song is playing. Your shoulders start moving and your feet start tapping, your head starts grooving, it’s all good, your hands may even start clapping, that is what Happy does to you.

So take the time to listen to the Happy song, you won’t be sorry for it, au contraire, it will put a smile on your face and lighten your spirit.

What does “happiness” look like to you?

The word happy makes me think of several things, my babies, Jack, food and France. I have some pictures to share that will show you what creates happy feelings in my heart.

These two pictures remind me of how much I love France and everything that is associated with those feelings; memories, family, great food, relaxation, tranquility, health, nature and being away from the hustle and bustle of stressful living. Life seems slower, saner and richer when I look at these two images and it makes me happy.

These pictures are the essence of happiness for me. My hubby, my babies, Jack, baking and cooking, clear blue skies and beautiful vistas. This is really only a glimpse of what makes me happy. I would have to include pictures of my entire family and the huge family get togethers around the dinner table, pictures of travel, pictures of books and libraries. There are so many things in this world that can bring us happiness, all it requires is an open heart and an open mind.

Happy is a wonderful word and I don’t think that it is over-rated as I have seen written in a few places. Happiness, I think, can be a simple thing even if it lasts for a minute or an hour and I think that your life is enriched by that, even if it may be fleeting. I like happiness, the same way that I like smiling and laughing and I try to remember that, especially during the winter months.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of getting a brand new haircut that actually pleases you. I think that the feeling makes you feel not only lighter, but younger. I received a few compliments as soon as I was unleashed from the chair by Rudy, the hair stylist. The owner of the Salon said to me “wow, you needed that, boy do you look a lot younger” I smiled and thanked him for the compliment. It didn’t quite sound like one but I knew what he meant. When he saw me prior to the haircut and the magic water, I guess I was kind of looking tired and rundown. As soon as I got a good two inches off the length, my hair bounced up and resumed being perky. It was dragging a little and so I think that it was also dragging on my features. Anyway I am good for at least four months, so I can go back to wash, rinse and go. I was still just washing, rinsing and going, but the results weren’t too nice. Now I will emerge from the house with a more youthful appearance and glow. Hooray for me and my hair.
