I have raved about our daughter’s homemade chocolate chip cookies in the past, they are quite addictive, you can’t have just the one. This time instead of baking cookies, our daughter lent her talents to sculpting a cake for her soon to be ex-co-workers as both a going away present and good-bye. She is leaving her position at the Volkswagon car dealership which is why her cakes are decorated with the Volkswagon logo and shaped as the Volkswagon beetle. I think she did an excellent job, her little Volkswagon beetle is adorable and for someone who has never decorated cakes before, she rose to the occasion. I wouldn’t have done half as good of a job as she did, I don’t have the decorating gene in me.

I hope her co-workers appreciate the work she put into the cakes, we got to taste the odd pieces of cake that were sculpted away and the cakes were both tasty and moist. My impression is that the going away party is going to be bittersweet, I know her manager doesn’t want her to go, yet I am sure that he wishes her luck in her future endeavors. I don’t know how many workers go out of their way to bake cakes, decorate them with a special theme as a sign of appreciation and thanks for the work experience. We are very proud of our daughter.

Christmas, decoration, postaday2015

This year we went a little different with the banister, my husband wanted the lights to be tighter and greater in number, I experimented with wrapping the red and green plaid ribbon around the banister parallel to the lights. I like it, I had previously spaced the lights and used garland to highlight the banister, but this year the children put the garland on the tree, so I wasn’t sure what to use to accent the lights, we were at Michael’s the other day when I saw the red and green plaid ribbon and boom it came to me. Initially I wasn’t sure my choice would work, now looking at the results, I think it did.

I am a fool for beautiful ribbons.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Christmas, decoration, postaday2015

A quick jaunt into Boston, never any rest for the weary, but I’m so glad we had a chance to walk around Faneuil Hall because it is so cheery and bright, everything needed to put one in a festive spirit.  We saw so many adorable litle ones, looking way up at the lights strung up everywhere, their little eyes bright with wonder, Christmas is all about the little ones.

While we were walking and admiring the decorations, I started getting in the mood to decorate, we both started to laugh just thinking of Stanley. This is Stanley’s first Christmas, Lulu’s as well, but she won’t be paying any mind to the Christmas tree, she isn’t a chewer, not like Stanley and Christmas trees are the ultimate chew toy. It will be interesting to say the least. lol

Decorating for Thanksgiving

This is one example of my meager decorating skills, I hadn’t gotten around to cutting down my beautiful ornamental grass, however I was cutting down the beautiful remnants of my errant Bittersweet and then inspiration hit me, why not bring some Bittersweet inside and perhaps drape some Bittersweet outside as well. So voila, my little stab at decorating outside in preparation for the Thanksgiving season.

The Bittersweet I brought inside the house is now in a large white bowl in the dining room, it’s the only Thanksgiving  ornamentation in there, but I did do an orange linen theme in the breakfast nook and the kitchen, it might just be a tablecloth and a few kitchen dish towels, but they look nice, warm and inviting, perfect for the Thanksgiving holiday. I envy those who have decorating skills and talent, however I do try and that should count for something.
