career journey, city of boston, construction management firm, dry spell, hubby, IPad, postaday2012

This week my hubby has flown the coop and embarked on an exciting career journey with the largest construction management firm in the Northeast. I am so happy because he is excited, happy, challenged and back where he belongs, in charge of big projects, meeting a variety of people and telling them what to do. This new position has him away from home, in the big city of Boston. So it is a little weird, especially with the remote control. Fast forwarding is his job and he is very good at it. Now it’s just me alone watching t.v and no one manning the remote, I could do it but it gets in the way of my writing and reading on my iPad. Not the worst thing in the world, but having the hubby take care of the nightly viewing of shows was really nice. I miss his company, the house has been quiet and I haven’t laughed all day. I’ll get used to it once again because before this dry spell, my husband was often away from home in New York and Boston and it was a way of life for us. I have to say that hearing how happy his voice is over the phone makes me very happy. I’m sure that he’ll be happy to know that I miss him.

construction management firm, holiday inn express, lumiere brothers, martin scorsese film, postaday2012

I’m back in Boston with the hubby, tomorrow he will be signing a contract with a construction management firm based in Boston and all these months of searching and interviewing has finally produced a job, one that we hope will lead him to his retirement in twenty years or so. No more looking. We are in another hotel, a Holiday Inn Express watching a free movie in our room, the Martin Scorsese film HUGO.

It’s a lovely movie, so well done by Martin Scorsese, as is always the case and superbly acted. The only off-putting thing, and my husband pointed it out, is that all the actors have English accents, though the whole movie is set in Paris and I would argue that the city of Paris itself, serves as an actor itself. The city is beautifully illustrated, or so it seems to be an illustration, it is that beautiful in the movie.

Needless to say, I enjoyed the film, it’s an homage to French film makers, the Lumiere Brothers who invented the cinemagraphe, and it shows how early in the film making era, the cinematographers hand painted the film with bold vibrant colors. It was fascinating.

construction management firm, free wifi, impressive knowledge, personal chemistry, postaday2012, work ethic

Starbucks on Tremont Street in Boston, Massachusetts is much like any other Starbucks. People enjoying access to free WiFi, sitting with their laptops and iPad, sipping their lattes, frappucino’s, or iced teas. I am one of these people, sipping my Venti non-fat cafe latte, writing this post on my iPad, while I wait for my husband to be done with his second interview with the construction management firm that he would like to be employed with. It is nerve-wracking because you never know with interviews, his first one with the firm’s C.E.O was a home run which is why it progressed to interview number two, with the team that my husband would have to work with, it all comes down to personal chemistry, likeability and charisma, not to mention ego’s and self-confidence. I know my husband and he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I just hope that today the team that meets with him will see his impressive knowledge of the construction industry, his hard work ethic, his commitment to doing the most for the company and it’s clients and that they will ignore his weaker parts. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, on an interview you can only hope that your strengths outshine the weaker parts of your makeup. At this point in my husband’s career, all he wants is to find a firm where he can retire, he has worked at some point for all the big firms and has done his own share of being boss, now he wants to stay in one place until he can call it a day at the age of 70 something. I don’t think that is too much to ask for, at least it will get him out of the house.
