Christmas, postaday2016

Merry Christmas to all of my friends and family! I hope this holiday season has been one of joy and love for everyone.

I was hoping that Jack would have had some reaction to Christmas Snoopy, but I should have known better since we do have the laziest Jack Russell on the planet.

I have to apologize for not sending out Christmas cards out or participating in my normal Christmas activities, but lately my pain has gotten progressively worse and my doctors are still trying to sort how to deal with this new development. It bothers me to have spent this December unable to write, I am in too much pain to sit long enough  to type.  I am hoping that January brings me a new pain management plan so I can get back to doing the things I enjoy.

You are all in my thoughts and I hope your Christmas Day is wonderful and special.

The Christmas spirit is growing in Blandford

Christmas, postaday2016

Our son got out all of the Christmas decorations while we were gone, put up the Christmas tree and brought down the Grinch. He also promised to help me with the lights when he comes back over, since this year I can’t do what I used to do for Christmas and that’s okay. Our daughter is coming home soon, I am sooooooo looking forward to having her back home, she’s also great at decorating, so between the two of them, our house will be decorated to the degree they like and that’s all that counts.

Tis the start of the holidays in New York

Christmas, postaday2015

Santa came!!! We were spoiled each and everyone of us. The most fun though was having the dogs open their many presents, they got dizzy between the squeaky toys, the treats and the rawhide strips. Lol.

Today is going to be about resting and enjoying each other’s company, watching all of the Christmas shows: The Year without A Santa Claus, Santa Claus Came to Town, The Little Drummer Boy and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the classics, Christmas wouldn’t be the same without them.

A nod to the French tradition, foie gras for Christmas, yum yum.

Merry Christmas!!

Seeking distraction in the twinkly lights of Christmas

My mother and I went into the city to have lunch at Vesso’s, the thin crust pizza place we adore, and afterwards we walked to Lord and Taylor’s, Macy’s and Rockefeller Center to see the Christmas Windows and the lights decorating everything from the trees, to the windows and the storefronts. This did in fact give me a few hours distraction from dwelling on the questions swirling around my brain. I haven’t heard yet from the doctor as to when my ultrasound is scheduled, so I still don’t know how deep the tumor is embedded in my esophagus, and not knowing exactly what lies around the corner in 2016 is a little unsettling. So I am grateful for the holidays because I don’t think there can be a better distraction than Santa, beautiful decorations, the Christmas spirit  and friends and family. I am grabbing these distractions by the lapel and embracing them fully.

There is so much talent and creativity evident in these stunning windows at Lord & Taylor’s, they are a tourist attraction themselves during the holiday season. The crowds weren’t unruly, everyone seemed to be in mellow moods, I wonder if the mild weather had any bearing on the good spirits?

Today was another good day.

This year we went a little different with the banister, my husband wanted the lights to be tighter and greater in number, I experimented with wrapping the red and green plaid ribbon around the banister parallel to the lights. I like it, I had previously spaced the lights and used garland to highlight the banister, but this year the children put the garland on the tree, so I wasn’t sure what to use to accent the lights, we were at Michael’s the other day when I saw the red and green plaid ribbon and boom it came to me. Initially I wasn’t sure my choice would work, now looking at the results, I think it did.

I am a fool for beautiful ribbons.

A quick jaunt into Boston, never any rest for the weary, but I’m so glad we had a chance to walk around Faneuil Hall because it is so cheery and bright, everything needed to put one in a festive spirit.  We saw so many adorable litle ones, looking way up at the lights strung up everywhere, their little eyes bright with wonder, Christmas is all about the little ones.

While we were walking and admiring the decorations, I started getting in the mood to decorate, we both started to laugh just thinking of Stanley. This is Stanley’s first Christmas, Lulu’s as well, but she won’t be paying any mind to the Christmas tree, she isn’t a chewer, not like Stanley and Christmas trees are the ultimate chew toy. It will be interesting to say the least. lol

Christmas, postaday2014

I wish all of my friends a very merry Christmas. I hope that today is a day that provides something for everyone; be it solitude, reflection, giving, receiving, whatever it is that you needed, I hope that it is there for you.

I am very lucky this Christmas day; I am with my family, we are together and that is what matters.

Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas!!

celebrations, Christmas, postaday2014

We haven’t seen our daughter since August 18th. We didn’t mind that she didn’t come home for Thanksgiving, we were happy that she went to celebrate with her really good friend, but it doesn’t’ mean that we didn’t miss her very much. Both of our children are young adults, but trust me when it is Christmas, they revert back to their younger selves and as parents we couldn’t be happier. They both love the Christmas feast; their food orders come after serious consideration on their part and Christmas morning still serves as an early morning wakeup call.

I think that our daughter was missing us a lot as well. I know that she loves Christmas and she is excited to see what will miraculously appear under the tree come Christmas morning, but she also missed having us, her family, near her. This is going to be a really lovely Christmas, I can feel it in my bones.

Christmas, family, postaday2014, presents

We are back in Boston and I took the opportunity to wander around the Legacy Mall primarily to go shopping at Whole Foods for fruit, things to drink and other food items. However when I saw the names of the other stores at Legacy Mall, I couldn’t resist the call to see what was going on in the Christmas retail scene.

Ann Taylor is one of my favorite stores to browse in, I rarely shop there, but I love looking at their clothes. I like that the pieces are timeless and classic, but with a slight twist to keep the look fresh, modern and relevant. There was a daddy with his son who was about 7 or 8 and they were going through the store looking at blouses and sweaters, searching for the right size and color. The daddy pulled out a cute sweater, cream with large blue horizontal stripes, a little French looking, and he asked his boy what he thought, the son said he liked it and the daddy said that it was the right size and that maybe mommy would really like it and be happy with the sweater. It was so adorable and sweet; they looked so serious and a little nervous about the sweater, I felt my smile get bigger by the second.

The next store that I visited was William & Sonoma, my husband and I LOVE that store. When I walked through the doors, I knew that I didn’t need a single thing, but I love looking at the table linens, all of the gadgets and the copper, the copper is so shiny and beautiful. While I was ogling the copper charger plates, a daddy was pushing his baby boy in his stroller and the baby did not look particularly happy being there. I suppose there wasn’t anything visually appealing or maybe it was getting close to feeding time. I of course couldn’t help but flash the baby a goofy smile and the daddy asked me if his son at least smiled back, I laughed and said no, he didn’t seem too happy being in the store, but I could tell that the daddy was intent on finding a special gift for someone very special.

I love people watching, it is never boring and to see these husbands and fathers taking their little ones with them to get something special for the special women in their lives made me feel a whole bunch of the Christmas Spirit.
