Do you belong in this day and age? Do you feel comfortable being a citizen of the 21st-century? If you do, explain why — and if you don’t, when in human history would you rather be?

I’m happy to be in any century as long as I am upright and relatively healthy. I love to being a productive member of the 21st century but I do feel just a tad let down in the technology department. I remember watching the Jetsons and seeing what the creators vision of the future was and ours falls short. I also remember seeing the future of the world exposition at amusement parks and they promised great things which hasn’t materialized as of yet. I am talking about Rosie the robot housekeeper or the flying cars or the renewable energies even Star Trek promised us more.

As I said above I would be happy anywhere as long as there was indoor plumbing for the restroom and the bathing room. I would not be very satisfied with any permanent living situation that involved outhouses and no running water. That’s just my requirements for happiness in a comfort related way.

Do you belong?

Do you belong in this day and age? Do you feel comfortable being a citizen of the 21st-century? If you do, explain why — and if you don’t, when in human history would you rather be?

I think that since we are in the very beginnings of the 21st century, not too far from the 20th, I feel pretty good where I am in the timeline. I’m not a techno person but I do enjoy the rapid feedback of WordPress. I sometimes imagine what it would be like to not have access to the internet anymore and the one thing that I would mourn is how it puts my thoughts, words and feelings out there so quickly to be shared with my friends. I try to tell myself that I could simply just write it down in longhand but then what would I do with all of my pages, where would I send them? I would have to find the names and addresses of everyone and do a daily mailing, I would be keeping the Post Office in business but is that in anyway realistic?

I know that I love indoor plumbing so I would never want to go back in time to a place without flushing and running water. I like the old ways of certain things so I think that I am where I should be in time because we haven’t yet abandoned all of the older ways of doing things; vinyl records are making a comeback, books are still revered, letter writing is still considered an art and local industries are regaining their foothold in many places.

I’m happy where I am.
