Last night was so much fun, we found our friends no problem, we had a nice spot on the grand lawn, we enjoyed our picnic dinner, and we had a baby to play with, the older kids were playing with other kids, so we were focused on the belle of the evening. Mom and dad were there too, lol, babies smell so delicious!

The concert itself was wonderful, listening to the Boston Pops under the light of the moon was a lovely experience. We did have a hiccup during the concert, halfway during the first act, we started getting a lightening show off in the not too far distance, right at intermission we were instructed to leave the lawn area and find refuge at the wine and bar area. As soon as we were underneath the safety of the bar area, the sky opened up, complete with thunder and lightening. It was a spectacular show. Forty minutes later, the show was back on and John Williams did not disappoint.

Our baby girl left for Miami today, I am happy for her and relieved that she is so excited to be at Miami. On the other hand, I miss her already. The minute she left, our baby boy took her to the airport, the house seemed less; less full, less everything. When the baby boy was away at school, it was hard to adjust, what made it easier was that he was much closer and now having him home, I’m happy knowing that he is busy plotting his music career and making progress with his band with their music videos, gigs and recordings.

Last year when the baby girl was at Becker, she was only an hour away and she came back often on weekends, Miami is so far away. I’m glad that during her Christmas break, we did a lot together. This time we aren’t going to see her until possibly late May, it is so far away. She has already talked about how she isn’t going to be here for her birthday, she wants me to mail her a cheesecake, lol. She is going to be twenty, where does the time go? We will figure out what to do for her birthday, she needn’t worry.

The babies did spoil me these past few weeks; they, without my asking or even mentioning it, put all of the Christmas decorations away and they have been doing the dishes, taking care of Jack and just being the best children that you can ask for. I am so lucky.

I am going to do more face time with the baby girl much more often, it will be very good for both of us. It will make the distance less glaring. I am seriously happy for her that she is at a place that makes her excited, curious and independent. I hope that every day, she wakes up curious as to what new thing might happen, what new person she might meet or what new opportunities could present themselves.

No one can ever adequately explain the complexities of parenthood. How no matter how old they get, you can so easily conjure up memories of babyhood and toddlerhood at the drop of a hat. We talk about the push and pull of children towards their parents, but we neglect the talk about the push and pull of parents towards their children. I know that an important part of successful parenting is to provide your children with the best tools for becoming independent and strong, but it is so easy to fall into patterns of wanting to protect them, take care of them and do for them. That is part of why parenting can be tricky, walking the fine balance between the two.

I am a very lucky Maman to have two wonderful babies.

My hubby and I act like crazy zany parents whenever we get back to Jack. We miss him when we are on the road, unfortunately hotels aren’t often pet friendly which is why we are so lucky that the baby boy loves Jack so much and loves taking care of him. We look forward to being grandparents in the future (ten years from now) but for the moment we are more than happy to shower Jack with all the attention and love we have to lavish on a baby. It works out well since Jack is our baby. Here is a sample of how gaga we get with baby Jack.

We are back home with the babies, actual and canine. The baby boy and the baby girl took very good care of the house and Jack. I am not surprised, we are very lucky with our babies, they are quite sweet. Jack squealed for his Papa, he never squeals for me. I know that he is very happy to see me, but I don’t incite the squeals that my hubby does. He gets the whole big show, each time, without fail, it starts with Jack running around sniffing near the stove and the sink looking for mice and then running to his Papa, stopping and putting himself in his playful stance where he starts to squeal. Then the chase begins until they are nice and tired. I get the tail wag and his paws up on my legs with the big stretch and that is it. What I do is ask Jack if he wants to go for a walk with Maman and he goes to the door and sits. He is so cute.

Our two other babies were happy to see us, but were busy with their own social life which is fine, they are young and fancy free and that is how it should be, my hubby and I take, our missing of the children when they were younger, out on Jack. He gets a lot of our hugs and kisses. I don’t think that he minds.

Happy Independence Day to every one! I had a very nice one. My hubby and I had an absolutely lovely day of doing nothing in particular. That doesn’t mean that we did nothing, we did a few things but only when we felt like it. It was beautiful. My hubby felt the inclination for pancakes and so he made us pancakes. He makes very nice pancakes. I took care of Rex and Jack since they are our babies and there is no getting around that. The baby girl went off to the baby boy’s place to hang out with him for a little bit, he had work later on in the day.

My hubby and I were relaxing in the living room watching Tuesday night’s episode of Franklin and Bash when the baby girl brought over a friend of her’s plus her 10 month old baby girl. My hubby and I got to dust off our baby entertaining abilities for a few hours. Once you have babies, you don’t forget, you don’t forget how small their little toes are or how cute their little fingers are and how sweet they smell. My hubby and I alternated holding her and bouncing her up and down. I fed her and she returned the favor by spitting up on me, which you do forget to be prepared for after all these years. Navigating the sensibilities of the baby versus our over protective German Shepard Rex, who jumped right into baby sitting mode, and little Jack who thought that we got him a new sibling, wasn’t easy. Rex went up to the baby, licked her face with his sandpaper tongue so quickly, he caught everyone by surprise, especially the baby. She yelled at Rex for that one, we had a good laugh at her expense but she was a trooper because even though Rex must have seemed like a huge bear to her, when she got over her temper, she crawled over to Rex and she really liked Jack and his kisses. I have to admit that when she and her mom left, I was a little tired, It’s been a while since I’ve carried a baby for a few hours non stop and keeping the dogs in check without ruffling their feathers or the baby’s because you don’t want the baby to think that dogs are scary. I am definitely happy to be the mother of two children who are not in any rush to make me a grandmother. They are far too young and it would be full time grandmotherhood, no thank you. It was a lot of fun though holding the baby and getting smiles and laughter and hugging and giving her kisses. Did I mention the fact that my hubby and I, we love babies. All in good time, which for us would be in a decade or so.
