My husband’s nod to autumn reveals itself with pretty chrysthamums. I had no interest in getting mums this year, mostly because historically, I have planted them year after year, for awhile I had quite a few coming back in the fall, but two years ago they stopped reappearing, I think it was that horrible polar vortex that did them in, so I decided to stop buying plants that wouldn’t come back. However when my husband picked out these two, I kept my mouth shut, they look festive and warm in our front yard and who am I to deny our home warmth and beauty.

I’m fairly certain I would have made prettier images if the sky had been blue, but the grey skies give a distinct mood which I enjoy, the mood suits the season. In my mind, autumn goes well with grey skies, the changing leaves are the focal point of color, so with a grey backdrop, the season reflects the drama going on within Mother Nature. I would argue that drama is at the center of Mother Nature, neither good nor bad, drama reveals itself in the smallest metamorphosis of the tiniest of butterflies, the sprout poking up through the soil and the gradual darkening of a far away cloud. Blandford is very beautiful right now, I’m lucky to bear witness to this beauty.
This week, it seems warmth is on the calendar, hooray for me, but with the surrounding countryside, it feels a little confusing, lol.

For many of us the seasons are changing, bouncing unpredictably between cold and warm. Are you glad to be moving into a new season, or wishing for one more week of the old?
I am enjoying our resurgence of the warm weather. Having experienced a small chilly snap last week, I decided that I wasn’t quite ready for permanent cold weather. I need more time to mentally and physically acclimate to temperatures that are below 55 degrees . I am not ready to let go of 65 degrees yet, though having the fall foliage displayed in all of its magnificence on a daily basis is incredible and a gift.
I wonder what it would be like to live in a change free environment. I think of it as a warm place, I never wonder what it would be like to live permanently cold because I already know that I would move away, I wouldn’t stay for long. In the case of permanent warm weather, I don’t know if I would miss the changing seasons, at least for the short term.
Island living with palm trees, blue skies and tranquil waters with balmy temperatures in the low 80’s would be quite lovely, at Christmastime I would decorate the palm trees somehow to add some yuletide cheer. Christmas spirit is much more than the surrounding environment, no snow shouldn’t mean no Christmas feeling. Sunshine practically everyday, I wonder if that would ever get old?
For now I will be taking in as much nice weather as possible and hopefully it will last for another few weeks. 🙂

For a small town like Blandford, we are very lucky to have such a lovely park as Watson Park. The Park’s benefactor was Doctor Watson who was a member of the Blandford Historical Society and left a sizable trust to the town designated solely for the upkeep and maintenance of the park for future generations. Our current groundskeeper, Doug, takes his duties very seriously and keeps the park very nicely groomed and trimmed.
I walked to the park to take pictures of what makes New England such a tourist lure, the changing foliage.
As I walked up the hill and to the gazebo, I was a little surprised that I got prettier pictures from midway up the hill, than the very top or even from the gazebo itself. It goes to show that I have a lot to learn with perspective and camera angles, the light was nice and I like the way the sun was hitting the colors, especially the golds and the reds. The air is starting to smell different as well, a certain crispness is developing and getting stronger day by day, it is very enjoyable because the temperatures are still on the warmish side. I have just been getting a hankering for apples and pears, the crisp air translates perfectly to apple and pear weather.

inMy hubby bought me a perfect present to celebrate the beginning of the autumn season, four beautiful six inch pots of mums.
I love the colors, light violet and dark red, I know that there are only three shown, but I have two of each color. Over the years I make it a point to plant them in the ground and it is quite the hit and miss endeavor; some years they come back and other years they don’t. I am going to plant these in the ground and at least until the winter time I will have beautiful colors once again in my front garden. That is exciting. This is one part of autumn that I love, beautiful and colorful mums everywhere.

I took these pictures to show how my garden looks when it is spent of all of its energy and flowers. I have slowly, over the past weeks, been gardenkeeping, cutting back and clearing up the little individual garden beds to prepare for the coming change of seasons. I figure may as well do some now, rather than let it all die back willy nilly. I write this post with a heavy heart, I so hate seeing my gardens die back, I know that it is all in part of the circle of life, but I lament the loss of color and the dance between the butterflies and the dragonflies.
I did forget about the burst of color that the Mandeville is still producing, alas pretty soon when I have to bring it in, along with the bougainvillea and the hibiscus, those beautiful blossoms will be no longer and I will be lucky if the Mandeville hangs onto its leaves. But as I said before, it is a circle of life and without the dark days of winter, would I experience the rebirth of spring as strongly?

My hubby and I were doing the New York-Massachusetts round trip today and as I was sitting looking out the window, I noticed that some of the leaves were already turning. I was surprised because it hasn’t been cold enough or wet enough. I had always been under the impression that leaves changed their colors after the first frost and we definitely haven’t had one just yet. The reason that I’m sure that we haven’t had a frost is because my bougainvillea, Mandeville and hibiscus are outside and still thriving.
Roundtrips are tiring and I am looking forward to some rest.

I decided to take some pictures of what a crisp fall feeling sky looks like, maybe it is all in my head but the blue seems colder today than it did last week. I wanted to take a last picture of the blue clear water of the pool before it gets put away for the winter. I took some last impressions of the blues and purples of the garden, I zoomed in to the blooms to get as much of the color as possible and the results, I think, are pretty interesting, almost surreal. I like taking pictures, it’s fun.
