Sniff, sniff we took Tantine to the airport, as I write, she is onboard waiting to takeoff. I miss her already, her two week visit was way too short. We had such a nice time together, whether walking around the city or sitting at my mother’s house talking about family, politics, anything really. She made a few delicious dishes as well, another reason to want her to not leave so quickly, lol. In French we don’t say good-bye, we say until we see each other again, which is especially fitting for family. Au revoir Tantine!

You’re at the airport, your flight is delayed for six more hours, and none of your electronic devices is working. How do you pass the time?

Welcome to the past. I have been traveling since I was a little girl so I know what it means to have to while away the seemingly endless hours in an airport. Actually six hours isn’t that long; airports have always had boutiques so that is an excellent way to use your time, browsing can be fun. There are so many different little places to sit to have coffee, tea or even a drink or two. You might be a little hungry and there are always some local specialties offered wherever you might be visiting.

I find it amazing and a little sad that the mere thought of not having access to electronics would cause such panic in some. There was a time when we knew how to entertain ourselves with daydreams, window shopping, walking, striking up friendly conversations and patience. I would argue that teenagers aren’t the only ones who go a little crazy when left without their cell phones.

I have thought about what I would do if the Internet would one day disappear, in regards to my writing and the instant gratification of people reading, liking and commenting on my posts. I have to admit that the instantaneous response is so very gratifying and it does validate and pump up the desire to write and share. Would I still write on a daily basis without the feedback? It would be a very difficult adjustment and I hope that I would find it within me to go beyond the spontaneous feedback and continue writing just for the passion that I feel about writing. I would miss the easy contact with my friends, but we still have letter writing and postage. The ties needn’t be lost, where there is a will, there is a way with everything in life.

On the road again

I’m on the road again, in the airport Miami International, sitting in a Starbucks, writing this at 6:02 in the morning waiting for one of my flights back north, back to my hubby, the baby boy and to Jack. The baby girl will be fine and she is now embarking on an exciting journey in a safe, intellectually challenging world that is the University, I am so happy for her and proud of her.

I am flying to Boston to meet my hubby and we will go home together. I figured that I would write this small missive now because who knows how I will feel after two stops and many hours later. I am flying to Tampa, changing planes and airlines (this could be a little crazy) and then flying to Newark, New Jersey, changing planes and then off to Logan airport in Boston. So my first plane leaves at 7:40 a.m and I finally get to my destination at 3:40 p.m. I will be tired and stale afterwards so I definitely think it best to get my words out while I am relatively fresh and awake at 6:08.

Starbucks has a great Banana Walnut bread, I highly recommend it. I was hoping for their peach, raspberry granola yogurt parfait but all they had was strawberry, blueberry and I am allergic to strawberries so that is why I opted for the Banana Walnut bread. I just looked up and caught a lady eating oatmeal, I had completely forgotten that Starbucks had oatmeal on their menu, I wish that I had been a little more awake when I had ordered, oatmeal is good for me, much healthier than the banana walnut bread but what can you do? It was really good.

Today is going to be a long day, not in a bad way just a long day. I can’t wait to see my hubby, our baby boy and of course Jack. I do miss my baby girl but she is about to have fun and learn a lot and that is what I need to remember and focus on, she is doing what is going to lead her to great things.
