It is day four of this month long challenge in writing, the goal is at least 1700 words a day to get to the 50,000 word count and so far so good. This time my motto is going to be slow and steady wins the race and I am not going to let myself be distracted by other thoughts, all that I am planning to do this month is to write every day and that is it. I do have a bad habit of talking myself out of trying things because fear of failure weighs heavily within me, I wonder if my hesitancy in completing my book resides in the fact that after I finish, the next step is to ship it out. I have written about this before, I am hoping that the more that I admit that I am my own worst critic and enemy that eventually I will exorcise this horrible failing within myself.
Which is why this time around I refuse to indulge in this type of negative thinking. Slow and steady wins the race and I will be writing each and every day, no matter what and it will get done. End of story.
What you said about not finishing because then you have to send it out – my creative writing tutor said last night. It’s a common fear.
Go for it!
I am going for it, I have an ability to compartmentalize my thoughts, if I really choose to not think about something, I can do that. My plan is to embrace my time each day set aside to write my book and not think beyond that. Let the book move forward on its own and finish. The rest will take care of itself after I am done. 🙂 Thanks Tilly for being my cheerleader!
Like for like!
Well done you 🙂

I’m not even trying this year! I am writing a sort of nativity play thing at the moment, and I am enjoying having finished my grandpa’s book, so the book thing is having a rest. Or I am, I suppose.
Good luck with yours 🙂
I would say that you have been very busy in the writing department. I think that it’s fantastic and I’m excited for you on both works. If the nativity play is for the little ones, I think that it is as much fun as writing about your grandfather’s experiences. 🙂 I can tell you this, when I finally finish my book, it will be quite a while before I start another one.
The nativity thing is what is being an “outside” nativity. We are posting characters in different locations (shepherds on a hill side, kings wandering about, Herod outside a castle) and they each have a monologue. There are eight monologues – and I have three left to do… nearly there.
Good luck with writing the last three and I know that it’s going to be great! We used to have an outdoor nativity scene, only the animals however. The human element refused due to inclement weather. lol You guys are far braver!
