It’s time for my delicate potted plants to come inside once again. My dining room is practically overflowing with hibiscus, mandeville and bougainvillea, if my dining room were a proper greenhouse than it would be quite beautiful during the winter time with all of their blooms but alas, it’s just an ordinary dining room so all of these tropical plants will be going dormant, either shedding their leaves or at the very least not doing anything.
I decided to leave them outside as long as possible thinking that perhaps the exposure to chillier temperatures will make them a little hardier. I have gotten very attached to these plants since I have been nursing them for several years now and I take my charges very seriously. I forgot to mention that I also brought in my two impatiens and two other plants that I have forgotten their names. The impatiens have been with me for a good four or five years and I am kind of proud of that.
One of my things on my fantasy wish list would be to build an addition to the library in the form of a greenhouse where I could house all of my plants during the winter and not have them subjected to the stresses of cold weather. This fantasy greenhouse would be an attractive addition to the house, albeit the back of the house, but it would give the backyard a new and different perspective. Like I said, this a fantasy wish, I am very happy with my house and my backyard the way it is, my plants will be just fine in the dining room the way they have always been.
