I have been pretty good about keeping my political and personal blogs separate. Today I am too embarrassed to stay silent about what happened at midnight September 30th. One of our political parties has allowed itself to be hijacked by an extreme element called the tea party and instead of letting The Affordable Patient Care Act which was signed into law, held up in the Supreme Court and our President was re-elected running on his signature piece of legislation, co-exist with all the other laws of the land; no, the tea party faction has decided to stop funding all government programs, its employees and personnel if the President does not do away with The Affordable Patient Care Act or more commonly known as Obamacare.
We at long last have a piece of legislation that will enable the majority of Americans access to affordable health care insurance not necessarily tied to employment and the tea party republicans say no. You would think that if one accepts a universal mandate for automobile insurance coverage, then accepting a universal mandate for health care insurance coverage should be a no-brainer, but apparently this does not make sense to the tea party faction.
The icing on this devilish cake is that despite having shut down the government, congress both the house and the senate, still get paid. Isn’t that special? Every other federal employee gets a nice I.O.U but not the house nor the senate.
Sorry about this political interruption in my normally pleasant and optimistic personal journal but this needed to be said or I wouldn’t be true to how I feel today.
I’ll be back tomorrow, I promise. 🙂
