It’s late, we just got back to our hotel from seeing Wicked at the recently renovated Boston Opera House, which I have to take a minute to say that my hubby’s company was the company charged with bringing back the Opera House to its former glory and what a tremendous job did they do, it is simply glorious to behold. I had heard excellent things about the play and my hubby and I were not disappointed, nor were our friends Shawn and Kelly. All of the actors were very seasoned theater performers, all the dancing was on point, toes hitting their mark, the synchronicity was flawless.
Now the two stars, Elfie the Wicked Witch and Glinda the Good, were wonderful. The actress who portrayed Glinda has quite the talent for comedic timing, she gave Glinda as much superficial depth that kept shy away from being over the top and just enough to make it charmingly funny. She toed that fine line brilliantly. Now the Wicked Witch was my favorite, her portrayal of flawed understanding of herself, her family and those others around her was poignant and heartfelt. I was rooting for her the entire time and the last song “No Good Deed goes Unpunished” was a show stopper.
There was even a love triangle between “Mister Perfect”, Glinda and Elfie and that gave even more heart and soul to the overall story of two friends, keeping their friendship despite being different, but perhaps not so different.
I and my hubby enjoyed it a lot and seeing it with our friends made for a great night out.
