Shape up or ship out

Write a letter to the personality trait you like least, convincing it to shape up or ship out. Be as threatening, theatrical, or thoroughly charming as is necessary to get the job done.

Dear Insecurity,

I know that you have been a big part of my life for what seems like forever, but at this point in my life; I am going to be 46 in about six weeks after all, I really think that you and I need to part ways. I am well aware that you probably think that you protect me from making a fool of myself or from getting hurt, but you must realize that without pain or failure, one cannot grow. I need to grow and after a while one must realize that what others think isn't as important as taking risks and trying to achieve goals is to ones life.

My inner work is going to be trying to displace you from my inner dialogue. I know that it won't be easy, you are quite the bad habit, but I believe that mindfulness will be very helpful in diminishing your presence in my life.

While we were visiting our cousins up at Canandaigua, New York, we took the high school graduate and her boyfriend to the movies with us on Saturday. The older men of her immediate family, her dad and her brothers were too busy golfing to accompany us to the movies, their loss. We all were psyched to see World War Z, especially me because I read Max Brooks novel and I loved the book. Believe it or not, despite the fact that the movie differed from the book, I loved the movie very much. When the movie ended, I wasn’t ready for it, I could have watched more of the story, gladly. I have to say that the biggest kick I got of the whole story, book or movie, is the fact that the author is Max Brooks, the son of Mel Brooks. He who created Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, The Producers, Get Smart and so on and so forth, his son wrote and will be known for World War Z. I find it so interesting a juxtaposition of genres within a family. I would love to know what Mel Brooks thinks of the World War Z phenomenon. I am sure that he must be so very proud, it is quite an entertaining piece of fiction.
