I don’t why I entitled my post “When in doubt, bake banana bread”. I did bake a banana bread this afternoon, not because I felt doubtful or anything, I baked it because I was getting tired of looking at three ripe bananas in the refrigerator, not doing anything but get older and browner. Technically, I baked a banana walnut/pecan bread with the single ingredient being 1/4 cup of sour cream. The house smelled wonderful, all bananany and walnuty, sweet and comforting smells wafting though the hall down to the living room.

My hubby is my food stylist, he arranged the banana bread just so, sliced it and spread some whipped cream cheese on a slice to make an appetizing picture. He is wonderful and talented in that way. My style is the first picture, without adornment, plain and what you see is what you get. More or less who I am as a person, what you see is what you get, pure and simple. At least I think so.

Say your name

Write about your first name: Are you named after someone or something? Are there any stories or associations attached to it? If you had the choice, would you rename yourself?

As everyone who reads my blog or follows me on plinky.com knows, my first name is Laurie. Laurie is actually my nickname; my actual name is Laurence. My mother named me right after she arrived here in the States and didn't realize that Laurence in English is a boy's name. Technically Lawrence is a boy's name and Laurence is the feminine version but who is quibbling? When my mother had me in the stroller as a baby, nice people would ask her what my name was and she would tell them Laurence and they would say, "oh what a beautiful boy!" My mother quickly learned that a nickname was required and so Laurie came into being to eliminate the gender confusion for others.

I still went through grammar school being teased about having a boys name and when adolescence hit, it got worse because I was lagging behind in development, so boys called me Larry for the longest time.

Would I have liked a different name? Yes, I would have loved a different name such as Veronica. One of my favorite songs is Veronica by Elvis Costello. My name growing up would have been Veronica Jones, I love the sound, it is nice and lyrical. Moreover there is no confusing Veronica with a boy's name, it is without a doubt a girl's name.
