Today we went down to New York because on Monday the baby girl and I are flying out from J.F.K. We went to my sister’s for dinner and my mother met us there. I was glad to go to my sister’s because it has been too long since I have seen the little ones, my niece and my nephew. Speaking of my nephew, he picked out my birthday card. My birthday is in August but since I’ll be away, I got my birthday card early. My favorite cards are hoops and yoyo, they are voiced cards with helium sounding voices, and the two characters are always excited to wish you a happy birthday. The one that tickled my nephew had the two characters reassuring me that I wasn’t that old, the redwood trees were older than I, so was Napoleon and all the rocks on the planet and oh yeah, the planet is way older than me too! I laughed, my nephew laughed, all was good and hearty laughter all around.
The steaks that my brother-in-law grilled were so good, we had three different offerings, one was a marinated flank steak Korean style, another was a marinated flank steak chimichurri style and the third, my favorite, was a flank steak marinated with lime and cumin, it was one of the best flavors that I have ever had with steak, I couldn’t stop eating the slices even off the platter on the table. All three steak presentations were great, different flavors to please different palates. Accompanying the steaks was a simple green salad, simple, clean flavors. It was a great going away, pre-birthday dinner coupled with good conversation, made for another special evening.
