Today was the first sunny day in a long time. I took full advantage to finally transplant the excess bulbs and irises that I had dug up from the side bed last month. I put them in the back by the new garden that I had started last year; so next year, I am hoping to have some really nice color in the beginning of spring. I asked for a new lawn mower this year because our old one had gotten way too unreliable and I don’t have the upper body strength to start it no matter how hard I pull on the cord and I get really frustrated at not being able to mow the lawn when I feel like it. So that is why I asked for a self-propelling mower like everyone used to use in the olden days before motors got involved. What I love, is on the box, it says in bold letters, NO CARBON FOOTPRINT, aside from the tons of carbon dioxide you will be expelling as you push the manual mower up and down your lawn. After I had finished with the transplanting and done some more weeding, I pulled the manual mower out and started pushing, our lawn had been mowed once already this season, so you would think that it would be an easy task just pushing the mower along. Hardly, it is serious work! Which I am very happy about because this is another way to get a good workout while doing a chore simultaneously. The motivation that gets me through vacuuming is that I am moving and blood is flowing which is great for my heart and muscles. The same logic applies to mowing the lawn, it is hard and it is a workout, but it is immensely good for my heart, my inner core strength, my legs and back. I am so happy that I don’t have to do the pull cord, it is so depressing to have a machine that you cannot use because you are too weak to get it started, no matter how hard you try. I despise feeling helpless, this mower makes me happy because it might take me three days to mow the entire lawn but as long as I can walk and push, I can mow.
