Describe your earliest memories.

Earliest Memories

I remember my mother coming home after my sister was born, she went immediately to bed and I went to hide under the bed because my great uncle came to get me. I didn’t understand why I couldn’t stay at home with my mother and the baby but later on it was explained that my mother was too ill to take care of both of us. I just remember crying in my great uncle’s arms on the bus and getting to his house. My great aunt opened the door and took my hand and showed me all of their Easter candy and chocolate bunnies. I remember that I had stopped crying when all that magnificent chocolate was displayed in front of me.

I suppose that one of these days I should sit down and figure out what my blog is really all about. I don’t seem to have a theme but do I really need one? If I were going to convert my blog someday into book format sometime in the future, than yes, I would need a theme or a common thread. I started thinking about this because I am about 3/4’s finished with my novel and before we know it, November will be here with Thanksgiving and nanowriting month and where am I going to find the energy to produce 50,000 more words. I immediately latched onto my blog, I have been writing faithfully everyday since Dec. 30th 2010 so I have a lot of words saved up, if I could put them together, I bet there are 50,000 in sum. Am I being lazy? I don’t know. I do know that my present novel is writing itself and by that I mean, I have an outline but my character likes to talk a lot and describe food a lot, so I write and write. I still have to throw her out of France and get her to the States but she is having a picnic with her lover on the roadside and they are presently lounging on the ground digesting their first class picnic complete with a bottle of Cote du Rhone. Get thee to N.Y. young Madeleine!

One of these days I am going to go through my past writings to see is I can thread them together into a word quilt if you will and see where that leads me, November is coming and I don’t know if I have the intestinal fortitude for another novel. I do have stories. I don’t know if I have a sequel to Madeleine, but you never know. I’ll figure something out.

I can’t help but think that with the concerted efforts by the GOP party in this country, the right wing party in Canada and the Eurozone as a whole, all bowing to an austerity policy philosophy, that somehow the international thriller novels that I used to read back in the 80’s and 90’s where the world was controlled by a small group of billionaires and they were the puppet masters with each world leader as their puppet was not some crazy conspiracy designed to sell millions of books. I’m talking about writers such as Robert Ludlum who would depict a scene with a conference room in Switzerland and 15 billionaires gathered around the table from Asia, the U.S, Canada, South America and so on and they would discuss putting down the unions and coordinating government fiscal policy and commodities trading and price manipulation, throw in some election buying and the plot is set. Truth is stranger than fiction. Where’s Jason Bourne when you need him?

Romney and Obama: Lost in the Arizona Desert

I loved the phrase “Mitt must molt”. That should be on a tee-shirt. I have always been proud of the fact that unlike countries in Europe, this country didn’t legally require its people to carry identification papers. That pride was instilled in me by my father, he came to the U.S as an immigrant from France and was so very impressed by that difference. I know that our country has had its share of bad history with each new wave of immigrants but when are we going to get over that? Vilifying the poor illegal immigrants due to their skin color just shows poor moral values. This issue being played out in the Supreme Court regarding Arizona’s law S.B 1070 is more than a power play between federal power versus state power regarding immigration, it has to do with civil liberties, racial profiling and economic activity. Our racial demographics are changing, it is fact. The GOP needs to get with the program and we as people with our votes can help get them there, meaning out of office.
