Writing a hobby or a chore or a career?

I am still working on my book. There are days that I wonder if my book is a chore or a just hobby and why am I even bothering with it, it’s probably not even any good. It’s hard because it is personal, it’s revealing and when I write, I feel as if the words, emotions and feelings are coming from deep within and they are seeing the harsh light of day. There are times that I find it a little disconcerting, you would think that I am working on the next great novel and that is so not the case. I am just writing about a relative’s life from another time in the past, a relative that I never knew, doing things that had become something like a legend in the family and I am making a lot of the details up, while writing about the time period as faithfully as I can through research and reading about it.

There are days where I indulge in fantasy and I wonder what it would be like to be published by a publishing house like Random House or Alfred Knopf publishers, those days are rare but it is fun when I go down that path. I think about doing the talk show circuit and being a guest on Good Morning America, Live with Kelly. I have even decided the shows that I would refuse, definitely the Fox news shows and I don’t think that I could go on the View because I would probably be rude to Elizabeth Hasselbeck aka Rudolph. I really don’t care for her. Nice little fantasy that I have created for myself, n’est-ce pas?

How’s your sense of direction?

April 24, 2012

My Sense of Direction

I think that I have a very good sense of direction. Give me a map and I never get lost, I have also found my way without maps during my younger days before there was GPS. I think that the key is not to panic, take a deep breath and take a good look all around you. When the fear of being lost dissipates, your reasoning skills come back to the forefront. Worse case scenario, you politely ask for help.

ALEC Running Tax Scam for Big Companies

If Goldman Sachs is the vampire squid in the economic realm than ALEC is the vampire squid in our political realm. I wasn’t aware that ALEC had the audacity to call themselves non-profit. They extract membership fees from the politicians who join their organization and they charge the corporations, those left who are still members, for their services. They provide instant legislation all catered to the right wing cause such as immigration, abortion and tax issues. It is high time that a spotlight be directed in their direction so that all their activities are seen in the clear light of day.

John Boehner: ‘1 In 3 Chance’ Republicans Lose Control Of House

Of course Boehner is never going to admit that he is living under a “reign of terror” from the tea party freshmen republicans and that, even being the neophytes in D.C, they hijacked his leadership and flipped it against him. He couldn’t seal the deal with the “grand bargain” proposed to him by the President during the debt ceiling negotiations, which in all honesty, I am so pleased that Boehner was exhibiting great ineptitude during that summer. If it had been someone like Nancy Pelosi she would have bull dozed it through and I am happy that someone of her caliber is on the democrats side. Boehenr, Cantor and McConnell are the lackeys of the Koch brothers, which essentially means big oil, natural gas and coal and probably military contractors as well. Those three have nothing to offer the American people as a whole. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the house reverts back to left so that we can have work done as opposed to the “do nothing” congress we have had since 2010.

Why Anyone Should Care That Bill O’Reilly Calls Me a Communist

Since President Obama entered office, the charges of socialism and now communism have appeared as part of the GOP tool kit to galvanize their base to automatically distrust any program or policy that the President endorses. Obviously the GOP and Fox news are counting on the fact that their base don’t understand what socialism or communism really mean. If they did, the charges would be laughed at and we would be able to move forward with hopefully some meaningful dialogue about how to correct the jobless trajectory caused by wage stagnation, free trade agreements and automation. I have noticed that whenever someone has the facts, research and a defensible argument they never have to yell or call people names. That behavior which you see constantly on Fox news comes from people who don’t have anything to base a clear logical defense on, it is all smoke and mirrors and O’Reilly and Hannity feel threatened by their lack of intelligence so they lash out as the bullies that they are.

Summer Memories

DUNE DU PYLA

My sister, my two children and I went to Arcachon, France to spend the day at the beach. I wanted to show my children Europe’s tallest sand dune, La Dune de Pyla. My sister and I have so many fond memories of us and our aunt and cousins climbing the Dune to get to the other side where the Bay is and we would have great picnics by the water. That day when it was the four of us, my sister and my son made it up to the top, while my daughter and I floundered in the steep sand and my little one kept rolling down the mountain of sand. After the fourth time, of her rolling and I chasing after her, we retired to the cafe to have ice cream.
