While the hubby and I were having our now weekly Sunday overnight getaway; the baby girl wasn’t just watching the dogs, walking them and feeding them and keeping the house all together, she also decided to display her culinary creativity. I knew something was up in the kitchen, when after the baby girl called me to tell me that she had gotten home from school and proceeded to tell me about her day and about the dogs, she called me back, not ten minutes later, asking where the vegetable oil was to be found. My baby girl can cook, but her style of cooking ranges from pasta with butter and Parmesan cheese to eggs sunny-side up with buttered toast, she normally uses olive oil, which is always on the counter. The elusive vegetable oil, thus was for something else such as brownie mix or cake mix.

When the hubby and I arrived home, the baby girl was sitting at the kitchen counter and she proudly told me all about her baking creations. She came up with the idea of making a cupcake with Oreo cookies, brownie mix and peanut butter. The added twist was that she had made a few variations on the original concept. I got to be a taste taster, Oreo’s aren’t my favorite, but the cupcake featuring just one Oreo cookie and brownie mix was pretty good. The others that had two Oreo cookies sandwiched with peanut butter and covered with brownie mix was way too sweet and rich. I told her that the concept was great, especially the original with the one Oreo, she believed me because I wolfed down two of those. The other was just way over the top and she agreed.

I get excited that she feels confident about trying new things with her baking to personalize her creations and put her own individual stamp on what she makes. As long as she is enjoying herself, I’m a willing taster.

Do you ever purchase lottery tickets?

Playing The Lottery

Not a winner

Occasionally my hubby will go out and get me a whole slew of scratch tickets and I will scratch away hoping for a prize. I’ll win a few dollars here and there but not enough to justify the purchase of those scratch tickets. I am convinced that easy money isn’t in the cards for myself or my hubby and that is okay. It’s still fun to scratch away always hoping for some luck.

The comments given by Justices Scalia, Alito and even Kennedy underline the complete and utter disconnect between the elite and the rest of America. I am not even sure what the GOP’s problem with the ACA bill is anymore. The individual mandate comes from their think tank, it was modeled after a plan designed by a card carrying republican Romney, it gives millions of consumers to private health insurance companies. What is the GOP telling us? Having employment no longer guarantees health insurance coverage, purchasing health insurance is cost prohibitive, health isn’t like driving, you choose to drive you can’t choose to be 100 percent healthy, tell that to the millions of children dying from some cancer or disease. High health costs are strangling our nation’s economy, why don’t the republicans see that? Medicare for all would in my opinion be the best answer in both the short and long term benefit for everyone, but since that isn’t possible the individual mandate would at least keep premiums from further skyrocketing.

Planned Parenthood Bombed In Wisconsin

I believe in free speech as long as the speech doesn’t come attached with bombs and money. The groups who are pro- life I would hope will come out on the record deploring this rephresensible act of terrorism. Pro-life means respect for all human life, do they also protest the death sentence? After all in this country we have had two executions, recently, that could very well have been executions of innocent men. I firmly believe that women have the legal right to choose their own reproductive choices and having to constantly defend the right to control your own reproductive autonomy, family planning right and self-determination just propels us backwards from whatever incremental strides women have achieved in the last century. In some ways, our nation is so backwards.

Supreme Court OKs Strip Searches Without Suspicion For New Jail Inmates (UPDATE)

What makes me apprehensive about the conservative slant of the Supreme Courts rulings for the past decade is that as we continue to move towards a stronger police state and because of the war on drugs and the war on terror, our civil liberties have been steadily eroded due to this vague need for absolute safety. I appreciate that being law enforcement is dangerous and a very courageous line of work but their civil liberties are at stake as well. Being arrested is becoming very common with the protests against various social and economic issues and those protesters being subjected to spurious strip searches for exercising free speech is a misuse of power and authority.

Every analysis that I have seen reveals that congressman Ryan can’t count. What do they call it when you take the same faulty logic and apply it over and over again to the same equation all the while expecting a different outcome? It can’t be insanity, it has to be something else. I know that Grover Norquist has called for a blueprint for shrinking the federal government to the size where it can be drowned in a bathtub, congressman Ryan has delivered the package signed and sealed by his fellow republicans. Why isn’t Grover Norquist investigated more fully? He seems to hold an undocumented and unprecedented hold over the GOP, that contract that he has them sign makes me think of the one signed between Daniel Webster and the devil, too powerful for anyone’s good.
