What’s your favorite fried food indulgence?

Favorite Fried Food

Fish and Chips

I absolutely love fish and chips with malt vinegar. I’ve had the wonderful good fortune of having been to London several times and have had at least two excellent versions in two pubs, though I can’t remember their names. Here in the states there is a cool restaurant/pub called Phonebooth. It’s on Second avenue between 10th and 11th streets in New York city, you can tell it’s the place because it has the red English phone booths in front of its storefront. They offer a delicious fish and chips complete with the malt vinegar, they offer Spaten on tap and you can even order a snake bite, half cider and half beer. Fish and chips, light and hearty at the same time.

food, Nicoise salad, postaday2012

Today for lunch at the hotel I had the French equivalent of a tuna salad, the salad Nicoise on a warm baguette. The tuna that was in the sandwich was a tuna steak that had been poached in olive oil and then it was flakes into small pieces and combined with pea shoots, roasted red pepper, chopped black olives, sliced hard boiled egg, anchovies and delicate baby lettuce. The salad still had a hint of warmth as did the baguette. It was honestly one of the best pan bagnat I have ever had. A salad Nicoise on a sandwich is called a pan bagnat and vice versa. Don’t get me wrong, I often make myself tuna salad at home and I enjoy it very much. The tuna fish in a can that I purchase, is the one in olive oil and I chop up celery, nice and fine along with its leaves, all that mixed with Dijon mustard and mayonnaise, salt and pepper and it makes for a nice sandwich. This one at the restaurant was excellent because it went the extra mile with different textures and flavors. My taste buds are quite happy.

My hubby and I are in Boston once again for an overnight get away. When we arrived at our usual home away from home, the Intercontinental, we decided to go for a walk in search of food. We had a destination already in mind, a Japanese restaurant called Oishii. While we were walking, my hubby put in a call to the baby girl and before she answered, I asked him not to tell her that we were in search of Sushi, she wouldn’t be very happy with us. She and her brother are aficionados of excellent restaurant food and they don’t appreciate when we have a wonderful restaurant experience without them. I told my hubby to tell her that we were having rice and beans for dinner, she doesn’t like rice and beans.

We arrived at Oishii and I was quite hungry after the twenty-minute walk. The decor was very zen like, the service was excellent and the menu quite extensive and interesting. My hubby ordered the Chef’s special Sushi and Sashimi and I ordered the grilled Chilean Sea Bass with a roasted garlic citrus glaze and sticky rice on the side. We were both pleased with our dishes, both of our plates were practically clean when the waiter came to clear our table. Dessert was next, my hubby ordered the green tea tiramisu and I ordered the red bean creme brûlée. Rest assured both were happy indulgences. After we were done and waiting for the check, I clapped my hands and said I didn’t lie, tonight I had rice and beans for dinner. Not necessarily in the manner most people associate with your standard rice and bean fare but they were at some point part of my meal. We had a great time out together.

What book is next on your To-Read list?

Next Book to Read

Wheel of time collection

I am eagerly awaiting the final book in Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time sci-fi/fantasy series. He passed away a few years back, we lost a tremendous writer. His wife asked a young writer/fan to help her finish her late husband’s series and vision. I am waiting for the end of the journey that I started years back with the Eye of the World, volume one. This is bittersweet, the last volume will mean the end of the story and the rich world of Robert Jordan’s vision.

Yesterday I wrote about trying to figure out what my blog was all about. My friend from the DailyPost community, Tilly Bud, gave me the best advice to get me headed in the right direction. Her advice was so simple, she suggested that I separate my blog content into two different blogs. That was it, the best advice is so often the simplest. I thanked her profusely in my reply to her comment. So this morning, I didn’t let any weeds grow under my bum, as soon as I hit the keyboard, I entered the WordPress realm and I have to say that the good folk at WordPress make it so easy to add a blog with tutorials, a wonderful help section and a ton of different options.

I actually went further this time with my new blog, I registered it in a domain. I have a domain, little old me. I’m quite excited about this, I know that there is a whole array of new things that I can learn about getting my political opinions and thoughts across a wider audience. I know that I have a lot to learn because just trying to cross-post my comments from Huffington Post over to my new blog, took me four tries. Under the post a comment section at the Huffington Post, they offer many different sites. When you click on WordPress, it asks for the WordPress host, WordPress login ID, WordPress pass word. I had to unravel which area would be the one that differentiate each blog from the other, even though they are under the same umbrella. Hooray for me, I figured it out. It was the address typed in the WordPress host area that would direct my comments to my political blog.

Great advice is only great if you follow it and I did. How it unfolds will be all of my doing, but I feel that I got an important nudge in the right direction by a good writing friend.

Describe your earliest memories.

Earliest Memories

I remember my mother coming home after my sister was born, she went immediately to bed and I went to hide under the bed because my great uncle came to get me. I didn’t understand why I couldn’t stay at home with my mother and the baby but later on it was explained that my mother was too ill to take care of both of us. I just remember crying in my great uncle’s arms on the bus and getting to his house. My great aunt opened the door and took my hand and showed me all of their Easter candy and chocolate bunnies. I remember that I had stopped crying when all that magnificent chocolate was displayed in front of me.

I suppose that one of these days I should sit down and figure out what my blog is really all about. I don’t seem to have a theme but do I really need one? If I were going to convert my blog someday into book format sometime in the future, than yes, I would need a theme or a common thread. I started thinking about this because I am about 3/4’s finished with my novel and before we know it, November will be here with Thanksgiving and nanowriting month and where am I going to find the energy to produce 50,000 more words. I immediately latched onto my blog, I have been writing faithfully everyday since Dec. 30th 2010 so I have a lot of words saved up, if I could put them together, I bet there are 50,000 in sum. Am I being lazy? I don’t know. I do know that my present novel is writing itself and by that I mean, I have an outline but my character likes to talk a lot and describe food a lot, so I write and write. I still have to throw her out of France and get her to the States but she is having a picnic with her lover on the roadside and they are presently lounging on the ground digesting their first class picnic complete with a bottle of Cote du Rhone. Get thee to N.Y. young Madeleine!

One of these days I am going to go through my past writings to see is I can thread them together into a word quilt if you will and see where that leads me, November is coming and I don’t know if I have the intestinal fortitude for another novel. I do have stories. I don’t know if I have a sequel to Madeleine, but you never know. I’ll figure something out.

I can’t help but think that with the concerted efforts by the GOP party in this country, the right wing party in Canada and the Eurozone as a whole, all bowing to an austerity policy philosophy, that somehow the international thriller novels that I used to read back in the 80’s and 90’s where the world was controlled by a small group of billionaires and they were the puppet masters with each world leader as their puppet was not some crazy conspiracy designed to sell millions of books. I’m talking about writers such as Robert Ludlum who would depict a scene with a conference room in Switzerland and 15 billionaires gathered around the table from Asia, the U.S, Canada, South America and so on and they would discuss putting down the unions and coordinating government fiscal policy and commodities trading and price manipulation, throw in some election buying and the plot is set. Truth is stranger than fiction. Where’s Jason Bourne when you need him?

Romney and Obama: Lost in the Arizona Desert

I loved the phrase “Mitt must molt”. That should be on a tee-shirt. I have always been proud of the fact that unlike countries in Europe, this country didn’t legally require its people to carry identification papers. That pride was instilled in me by my father, he came to the U.S as an immigrant from France and was so very impressed by that difference. I know that our country has had its share of bad history with each new wave of immigrants but when are we going to get over that? Vilifying the poor illegal immigrants due to their skin color just shows poor moral values. This issue being played out in the Supreme Court regarding Arizona’s law S.B 1070 is more than a power play between federal power versus state power regarding immigration, it has to do with civil liberties, racial profiling and economic activity. Our racial demographics are changing, it is fact. The GOP needs to get with the program and we as people with our votes can help get them there, meaning out of office.
