Brussel sprouts, the vegetable that I often forget

Strolling through the produce section at Stop n Shop, I was stuck on which vegetable to make with the chicken cutlets that I was planning to feed the family this evening. I passed the Brussel sprouts and asked myself, would the baby girl like these? I know that she used to love them but it has been a while. For some reason it is simply not a vegetable that screams out in the produce section “Pick me, Pick me!” I decided that I was going to live dangerously and brave the potential complaints of the baby girl. The sprouts are so cute, packaged in their little cup with cellophane keeping them from escaping. I decided that bacon was going to be key in making this dinner a hit. Everything tastes better with bacon. So within half hour this evening I had several chicken cutlets breaded and sautéed with lemon and Brussel sprouts; blanched, halved and sautéed in a pan with chopped bacon until the sprouts were nice and caramelized alongside the bacon. The baby girl was duly impressed and it was a quick light dinner. Hooray!

Education and health care are outrageously expensive

‘Obamacare’ Embrace By President’s Campaign Marks Change In Strategy

Personally I think that both terms reflect what the goal was for the bill. The Affordable Patient Act essentially takes on the high cost of health care and tries to address the problem and Obamacare is what it says, President Obama cares about this problem, the high cost of health care in this country affects everyone across the board, there is no escaping health care, we are human. No one is immune and the fact of the matter is that President Obama, by putting his presidency on the line for this, says to me, that unlike the GOP, President Obama sees health care as a right and not a privilege. An extremely critical distinction in my book.

Mitch McConnell On Health Care Law: ‘More Incremental Fixes’ Over ‘A Massive Republican Alternative’

The GOP argues that the government is inefficient and too bloated to do anything right and that the American people would always be best served to get all their needs met by the “free marketplace”. If they really believe that, than I for one would like to see Boehner, McConnell and Cantor take themselves off of their own employer based health care coverage and enter into the “free marketplace” and purchase their own private health care insurance. I would really like to see them navigate the insurance market to see how happy they would be with the coverage plans available to themselves and their families as private citizens. Based on their salary of 175k a year, I would be curious to see what health insurance co’s plan would be the winner. Nowadays, a family plan runs the gamut between 1,200 to 3000 per month depending on the yearly deductible which could be 300 to 1000 per family member. Until the day that the GOP congressmen and the Supreme Court justices feel the pain of average Americans having to choose between paying bills and going to the doctor for preventive care, I cannot accept their flagrant and irresponsible outlook on health care in this country.
