I wrote, yesterday, that I was going to make oatmeal raisin cookies for tonight’s program at the Historical Society. My baby girl was kind enough to bake her chocolate chip cookies for me so that is all set. On my end, not so much. My cookies came out tasting like my oatmeal breakfast, which I don’t mind for myself, I’m wondering how they will go over with our guests. Just in case, I’m going to bring over some Famous Amos chocolate cookies. The lesson here is be wary of baking something that you don’t particularly like,in order to get a proper taste taker, I went over to the Post Office and got our Post Master’s opinion. She said that the cookies were good but a little dry. She suggested that next time I take the cookies out right before they are done. That is good advice, unfortunately my oven took me by surprise, thereby taking any chance of taking the cookies out prematurely out of my hands. I’m going to bring the cookies and hopefully our fearless leader who requested the oatmeal raisin cookies won’t be too disappointed.

On Voting

Election 2012 button

I will most certainly vote this year, voting is a right, a privilege and a responsibility. The last time that I voted was this past January for our Select Board elections in my small town of Blandford. The Select Board of our town is similar to a Council Board, they are the executive officers of our community.

I read this article and so many others like it and my heart goes out to these young men and women. The sacrifices that they have made in service to their country is awe-inspiring. Our leadership in the military and in government should take these stories in account when they make their decisions from the safety of a conference room as to whether they want to engage in another military conflict anywhere. I am speaking about the war mongering rhetoric coming coming from our GOP legislators, our presidential candidates and even President Obama. Our troops have had enough of war and I would say that our nation has as well. Enough with the saber rattling against Iran, our soldiers need time and resources to heal. We should be showing them our thanks by taking care of them back home.

Thanks Chris, I particularly loved the way the newspapers described the celebrations as joyful toasting amongst merry gentlemen and how much good affection was felt by all. A return to such dignified reporting would be a nice break from all the muck-raking we see nowadays. You write about how if the British had continued to show the colonies respect and consideration instead of treating them as some sort of piggy bank, we might still be part of some common wealth shows that in hindsight we gain tremendous insight into the importance of an almost singular act surrounded by the right set of circumstances. I have heard it to be called a linchpin moment, would the election of a Mitt Romney be called a linchpin moment in the future? Linchpin moments are rarely seen as good, they bring about a domino effect that culminates in some disaster; such as the assassination of Duke of Ferdinand that led to the Great War of 1914.
