Today my son and I are going to take the two hour ride out to Logan Airport in Boston to pick up the hubby from his 10 day business trip overseas. He is coming in on Air France, a lovely airline. He had a stop over at Charles de Gaulle airport, he called me while he was waiting for his flight back home asking me if I wanted anything special from the duty free shops. I said all that I really wanted was a ham sandwich, he got a kick out of that one. He is excited to get home, I can’t blame him. Though I would say that 10 days wasn’t too long for him to be away, any longer would have been too long. I’m happy to go get him and bring him back home.

Road Trip Essentials

Narrow road over Atlas

Nowadays I would say a successful road trip is getting to the destination as quickly as possible. That means a full tank of gas, good directions, Werther’s sugar free hard candies for my throat; I have come to appreciate a quiet car, but if my fellow passengers need music all I ask is that it is not country music and if possible, good conversation.

Bristol Palin Attacks Obama Over Sandra Fluke Controversy

Ms Fluke came to a hearing, invited to give testimony as to her experience as student and a woman, she testified to the fact the contraceptive pills served as a medical therapy as well as a contraceptive aid. Rush Limbaugh who is the unofficial head of the conservative party attacked her, a private citizen who was not running for any office, she was simply giving testimony at a hearing, and put her name in the national spotlight saying that she was asking our government to pay for her sexual encounters and that he wanted a sex tape in exchange. He is not a comedian, he is a political commentator, he has built his career by being the spokesperson for the GOP, the GOP leadership acknowledges him as such. Bristol Palin was defended by Candidate Obama when she and her siblings were under attack, what more does she want? This is not about her, she doesn’t believe in contraception. This is about women elsewhere who believe that we, as private citizens not running for office, should have the right to privacy when it comes our reproductive health and also the right to privacy when we are asked to testify our personal history in a congressional hearing.

House GOP Budget Blueprint Released

I wish that the GOP would approach the question of medicare honestly, they treat the program as if it were a free program. Everyone who has ever worked and paid payroll taxes along with their employer has paid into medicare, the same goes for social security. Would the GOP dismantle FICA completely? I would also like for them to address the question of student loans as well. Having two children in college, I know first hand how prohibitive the costs are, for a solid future in the United States, a college degree is required, why isn’t the GOP interested in investing in our nations future. By this I mean, the interest on student loans is 7.9%, the interest rates these days is, for example on a mortgage 2.75%, putting a generation of young people in debt at interest rates that a way above the market value of other rates is wrong. These students are more vulnerable and I think that the GOP is remiss in not addressing how they would help our future generation instead they seek to further cut taxes for the wealthy and corporations and cut spending for the middle class. Austerity is not a strategy that promotes growth, it promotes stagnation and deflation.
