While we were at my mother’s in New York, my hubby surprised me with a visit to the Red Door salon at Elizabeth Arden’s. I have been going there for years and I’ve had the good fortune to develop a friendship with Cafaro who cuts, colors and styles my hair and Lindsey who has always done my makeup or as I usually put it, paint my face. Cafaro and Lindsey are wonderful guys whose faces light up whenever they see me and I love seeing them as well, they are also incredibly talented in their field so I always leave feeling on top of the world. My hubby is a peach, he made the reservation because he knew that I was stressing over waiting for the biopsy results and he thought that a visit with Cafaro at the salon would be a welcome diversion and a treat. He was right, I was pampered and distracted by Cafaro and his usual gossip, Lindsey wasn’t there because he was on the road for Elizabeth Arden doing trade shows for their facial products. He is in charge for the whole makeup division, he is that talented on top of being one of the sweetest men that I have the pleasure of knowing.

When I was about done, the hubby came to pick me up and he had a nice visit with Cafaro as well, my hubby is very charming and all the service staff were very responsive to his gregariousness. I had forgotten how much grey hair I had, because after a while, being so used to it, it blends in and I don’t see it. When Cafaro was finished with me, I felt as if a decade had melted away from my face. My natural color was back in force plus with some caramel highlights to brighten up the face. When I looked in the mirror I felt 38 instead of older. I’m only 44 but I was feeling 60.

My hubby did the sweetest thing, booking the salon for a few hours to melt the superficial age away from my head and my mind. He is a keeper, he subscribes to my blog so I hope that he reads this so that he knows how much I really appreciated the visit to Elizabeth Arden and that the fact that he thought to do this for me on his own made it even more special.Hooray for the hubby!

The political spectrum, where do I fit in?

On Politics

Theodore Roosevelt Island

I am a progressive since the word liberal has received such a negative connotation in recent years. When certain people in the news say the word liberal, the disdain and condescension drips and oozes from their mouth. That hasn’t happened as of yet with the word progressive which I think is actually a more apt description of what I believe in; the progression of the human condition to a more sustainable and healthy future for everyone.

Obama Tested By Events Outside His Control

A vote for any GOP presidential nominee is a vote for more and continued deregulation of all industries which benefits businesses theoretically, (except for when it doesn’t, such as with light bulbs) and diminishes our quality of life, it is a vote for continued income inequality, a vote for making higher education a luxury as well as health care if you are sick. Basically a vote for the GOP is a vote for continuing down the path plowed by Bush/Cheney which would have us be an exclusive nation for the haves and a depressed nation for the “soon to haves” as in never in your lifetime. All I ask is to work and earn a living wage, be able to send my children to college without needing to sell any organs on the black market, not go into bankruptcy because I became ill and retire without having to choose between medication and food. Is that too much to ask for? Especially after a lifetime of work, well, according to the GOP, it is. I refuse to accept that, it shouldn’t have to be that way.

Rick Santorum: ‘Tell That To A Plant, How Dangerous Carbon Dioxide Is’ (VIDEO)

Really? Rick Santorum would have us believe that learning about science is bad? He needs to revisit a course in Earth Science because the symbiotic relationship between human life and plant life is taught in that course; this is for you Rick, we breathe in oxygen and expel carbon dioxide, the plants breath in carbon dioxide and expel oxygen, we benefit each other greatly. The danger comes when we outnumber our plant life than the balance shifts and our environment suffers because without our plant life to absorb all the excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, it creates a heat trapping layer. You would think that having someone like Rick showing his ignorance would be a call to arms to strengthen our science requirements in public schools, I know that that is my first instinct.

Mitt Romney Notes NFL Team Owner Friendships In Peyton Manning Remarks

Poor Romney, he is a horrible campaigner. He doesn’t have the ease that say, President Clinton had with people or even President Obama has with babies and dogs and singing.Personally, I don’t see that admitting to having these football team owners as friends is a gaffe. The true gaffe is running away from the fact that you are wealthy and that your circle of friends are wealthy people as well. Look at Jeff Foxworthy, who made his career as a comedian by poking fun at being a redneck, he doesn’t shy away from his success, he embraces it. Romney needs to become comfortable with what he has done and who he is, only then would he really connect with people. The question remains who are the people he would be connecting with, would they be the ones that he needs to win a presidential election? Perhaps not, I know that I would never vote for him because I wouldn’t trust him. He won’t take a stand for what he did in MA in terms of the healthcare insurance law and if you can’t own what has turned out to be your signature political accomplishment then what do you stand for, aside from leveraged takeovers and buyouts?
