geography quizzes, postaday2012, travel

http://lizardpoint.com/fun/geoquiz/index.php
I hope that I did this correctly, the link that I pasted here above, is on my toolbar. It is a series of geography quizzes from all throughout the world. I have had this on my toolbar for over a year now and I try to take at least a quiz or two every month or so. They aren’t easy, I have been doing the African continent, attempting to identify where all the countries are located and out of a score of 165, I’ll score a miserable 94. It is embarrassing, I should be much more knowledgeable of geography anywhere. Don’t get me wrong, I was lacking when I did the Asian quiz and the South and Central American quiz. I spoke to the hubby and he arrived safely in Algeria, he went immediately to the job-site, met a very nice group of people and he is very excited to work out all the kinks in the ongoing construction project. I was so relieved to hear him in such good spirits and to be so very excited about being on a new project overseas.

I really recommend trying to do the geography quizzes at least once, I think that it will be an illuminating experience for most. The way the quiz is presented is that, you have the continent of Africa with all the countries outlined, the question will ask you to click on the country they want such as Malawi, so you go to the outlined country that you think is where Malawi is located and you click on it, if you are correct, you get 3 points, if not than you have two more tries, after the third one, you move onto the next question. However, once you pick a country, it doesn’t get highlighted so if you don’t remember that you clicked on it, you might click on it again searching for a country. It is not that easy.

TV Commercials

Roll #1 windex-20101116.jpg

What I have noticed over the past few years is that commercials show little respect to the men of the house. Every commercial I see, aimed at the consumer of the family, shows a husband who is clueless and helpless and is lost without the strong, brilliant wife. I sometimes feel bad for husbands who watch these commercials and pay attention because when I pointed it out to mine, he now looks for it and gets annoyed by how stupid these commercial husbands are made out to be.

Orrin Hatch Faces Challenge In Utah GOP Caucus

Senator Hatch is feeding into the most destructive political process, the art of non-negotiation and zero-sum gamesmanship, by accepting this political strategy just to keep his Senate seat, he validates the most cynical view of politics as a whole. His whole purpose for being a politician isn’t for the greater good of this country or his constituents, it is rather to represent a tiny fraction of a population that truly doesn’t reflect our nation overall. His base wouldn’t allow him to compromise or work with others, that isn’t good for our country.

Energy Report: Obama Goes On Offense About Gas Prices, Reliance On Foreign Oil

According to the Economist, hardly a “liberal” publication, the gas prices are a reflection of both better economic news and a tightening of supply. Iran’s supply has been lowered both due to economic sanctions and a price dispute with China, there have been technical disruptions in the North Seas, problems with supply lines in South Sudan and regarding positive economic news; speculators seeing that the Euro crisis is being “contained” at least from the bankers perspective and that China isn’t experiencing a hard landing from its previous economic growth and the American recovery is strengthening bit by bit, the Economist argues that you would be hard pressed to lay the gas prices on President Obama’s lap. Unfortunately President Obama can shout this from the rooftops and the right will drown him out with ridiculous accusations of denying oil companies from drilling everywhere and plotting to raise gas prices because he is a “socialist”. It frightens me that that in order to be informed and educated you have to read independently go through hoops and that you can’t trust the “news” to get your information, what purpose do they serve now?

I had a conversation with my mother about how the income inequality in this country has gotten completely out of hand and that it was to a great degree a deliberate choice made by the powers that be. My mother answered that it wasn’t, that for companies to survive they had to go overseas and that the poor people overseas at least could then afford to eat. This is the message that she hears from watching all the Sunday news programs on channels other than Fox. I responded haven’t you heard about Foxxcom and the suicide nets, I said that is not normal, nor is the 200% difference in pay between an average worker and a C.E.O. I said that everything about the economy, any economy, is based on perception. The price of gold is based on perception, the only constant is that humans like it but the value isn’t concrete. Until everyone understands this basic concept, that nothing has a concrete value and that it is all based on manipulation and perception, we will always be subject to the whims of those in power. My mother tried to say that the free market sets the price, I responded what free market, when the republicans cater to the fossil fuel industries with huge tax breaks and subsidies, that isn’t the free market, I would argue that it smacks a little bit of socialism.Basically, I was arguing that we don’t have to accept how things are just because the wealthy have said it on t.v or have written it on paper. The grand experiment of the past 40 years since Ronald Reagan of supply side economic theory where the tax cut benefits to the wealthy and the corporations would rain down on the rest of us has failed miserably, and yet the GOP continues to double down on that failed experiment, only proving that it is all based on perception, their perception is that it works for them so it works. My perception from down here is that it has failed, but since I haven’t a voice, my perception stays silenced.
