Tomorrow is my biopsy and I am nervous, I have a pit in my stomach so I am cheating and throwing out a bit of my novel for you to read. I hope that you enjoy it even though it comes out of context and is standing alone.

The weekend came and went without any fanfare. The same family rituals, Saturday morning we all go to the Marche, I spend all of Saturday helping Maman cleaning, cooking and baking. Gabrielle and the girls are out. Sunday we all eat together with Sabine and Hortense as usual. The only thing that keeps me from getting depressed when I see that life is always the same is that next weekend is the spectacle with Josephine Baker at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees. I need to make more plans because I feel as if life is passing me by and I’ll turn around one day and ask myself where time went.

It is finally time for our final fitting, Sabine and I race to her apartment and we see both silk dresses just waiting for us on the mannequins. “Oh my goodness Sabine, they are so beautiful! Hortense you are a fairy godmother.” I turn to Sabine “how did you not try your dress on until now? I couldn’t have waited.” Sabine says “I couldn’t because this is the first time that I have seen them up on the mannequins, Maman has been very secretive and I didn’t want to jinx the dresses anyway. Best to let the master seamstress work without being bothered, don’t you think?” “ Sabine you have more patience than I, but I’m so glad that you left your Maman alone because these are exquisite.”

Hortense comes out from her room carrying all the accessories and starts to tell us to undress so that she can begin the fittings. She says “I bought out all the costume jewelry and the sautoir and feathers so that you girls get a really good idea of what the final result will look like for Saturday night.” I said “Sabine why don’t you go first, I am dying to see you in that beautiful corn blue silk to see how your eyes look with the dress’s color” As Sabine put on the dress being very careful not to get stuck by any of the pins you can see that Hortense has made her dresses so often because it fit perfectly. It does pay to have a seamstress as a Maman. The dress was so simple, Sabine’s dress was just below the knee and she had two slits at the drop waist line so that when doing the Charleston her dress would go back and forth. Hortense had added right at the waist a belt of long shimmering fringe all around the dress that caught the light and moved with the dress, it looked so pretty. The dress was sleeveless and Sabine to dress up her arms had gotten ten bangles and a long rope of pearls to dress her neck up. She also purchased sparkly hair pins to catch the light all around her face. Sabine looked like a vision of elegance. “Sabine wait until Guillaume sees you; he is going to not let you out of his sight for a single minute. He is going to be rendered speechless by your beauty.”

Why I Still Obsess About My Weight

I too am a recovering anorexic, anorexia is a lonely disease and still so misunderstood. As the authoress stated, it really isn’t about weight in the end, even though it starts out that way innocently enough. It is about feeling your life to be out of your control and the only thing available to control, insofar as you can see, is your relationship with food and your weight. It is also about hating yourself and trying to fix yourself so that you don’t hate yourself any longer. That is why it is such a lonely disease, because when you are in the throes of it, you can’t understand why you are driven to restrict and regiment yourself and even if in the back of your mind, you know that your behavior is dangerous, you are helpless to call attention to it, so you hide your behavior from others and become secretive. I have my moments of falling back into old patterns but I am lucky that my family is aware and is there to prop me back to my safe place. I only wish that every anorexic could have that.

Iran Crisis: Efraim Halevy, Ex-Mossad Director, Says Romney Op-Ed ‘Making The Situation Worse’

From every journal I’ve read that has featured “experts” all this aggressive posturing is only pushing for an outcome that we do not want in the least. Haven’t we been through enough war? The war in Iraq accomplished absolutely nothing except for claiming innocent lives and fallen soldiers, depleted our nation’s coffers and further destabilized the Middle East. Afghanistan hasn’t been a success either and now the GOP candidates are falling over themselves as to who can provoke the loudest in order to impress Israel. There is not a shred of empirical evidence that Iran is anywhere near a bomb and I hope that President Obama is simply posturing for now and continues to be vague about the line to be crossed. We have work here that needs to be done. Israel could take a page from that as well, they need to focus on their own domestic turmoils and stop looking abroad for trouble.

Ann Romney: ‘I Don’t Even Consider Myself Wealthy’

This just goes to show how clueless all the GOP candidates are about what the American people are really concerned with, we don’t care that these candidates are wealthy. What we care about is that these candidates are blatantly campaigning on a platform that would further increase the income inequality that exists in this country. All four of the candidates are proposing programs that would make their class richer while making all of us poorer, making education ever more expensive and exclusionary, in some cases eliminating the minimum wage instead of increasing it, gutting the E.P.A so making our environment more toxic, making health care a luxury that less of us can afford, that is what we object to, not their wealth. Americans for the most part admire those who have made it, what we don’t admire is when those who have made it decide that the rest of us should stay put in the trenches. I find it highly objectionable that we should accept their vision that a middle class family should be grateful for horribly paying jobs. The American idea that we pull up our bootstraps can equally be applied to workers once again uniting and the occupy movement standing together and saying we are not going to accept your vision anymore. We deserve better.

Fracking Divides GOP As Kasich Introduces Bold Policy

I am surprised that the Ohio populace hasn’t called for Governor Kasich’s recall yet, given that he has declined federal aid for the tornado victims and I’m sure that Ohio isn’t swimming in state dollars so how are the victims going to be helped out? Is the Governor proposing the GOP traditional prescription for all things, pull yourself up by your own bootstraps? I am glad that he is showing some sense regarding the limits he is proposing regarding fracking and it’s drilling areas. When are we going to wake up and realize that we aren’t close to having the technology required to ensure that tapping into the natural gas reserves is environmentally safe and secure? My husband who is a construction executive and has been for twenty years screams at the t.v whenever politicians talk about allowing fracking to continue, according to him it is completely unsafe for our environment and whoever says otherwise would sell you the Brooklyn Bridge as well. This is all about profits at the expense of our environment, Ohio has enough troubles on its plate right now.
