demigods, dramatic license, gods of olympus, greek mythology, greek myths, mythical creatures, postaday2012
As I was writing yesterday, I enjoyed the movie Wrath of the Titans. I enjoy most movies featuring Greek mythology. Ever since I was a little girl I have had a passion for Greek mythology, it made beautiful sense of the world and our relationship with it on so many levels. I received the best book in the world on Greek myths when I was eight and I have been hooked ever since. I read all the stories to both my children, infecting them with the same passion that I have. I don’t mind even when movies take dramatic license with Greek mythology, it really doesn’t bother me. Hey, I’m just happy being at the movies with moving pictures in front of me and a story unraveling before me.
The conversation that the children and I had after the movie was great, there was a lot of back and forth between the little girl, who was criticizing the movie’s faithfulness to the Perseus myth and my son’s appreciation of the 3D technology and the CGI use for the mythical creatures. We reminded each other of how our version of the epic battle between the Gods of Olympus and the freed Titans went down. The Gods won, but only by employing every resource available to them, meaning the help of all the demigods, Hercules included.
I see various Greek myths everywhere, it does my spirit good to see that my favorite stories are still relevant and appreciated.

If the Supreme Court sees it fit that limitless amounts of money be allowed in the political arena than the least that should be required is full disclosure as to the sources of such monies. Full disclosure makes for better democracy because all players are given all information in which to base their decisions on. It is tiresome to know that only if you have money then you can have an all access pass to correct information and the ears of those in power. Seeing the imbalance of power and influence peddling by the likes of Karl Rove and the Koch brothers I would think for reaffirm support for the repeal of Citizens United. There are so many distractions and the fight for integrity in our political dealings must not be forgotten despite these constant distractions.

When the country is still reeling from an economic meltdown, the presidential candidates need to check the jokes at the door. Offer up empathy, potential solutions and thoughtful analysis, just no jokes. Jokes often rely on someone hurting and we don’t want to be reminded that most of us have been the punchline for Wall Street and the Big Banks. Leave that to the professionals on at late night. I prefer my comedy from Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Dave Letterman and Bill Maher, not from politicians.

I find that all the Sunday morning show pundits and journalist should all hang their heads in shame that a late night talk show host could engage Mitt Willard in meaningful question and answer about a key issue the health care insurance. As a MA resident and a former small business owner I can speak to both experiences with acquiring health care insurance. The MA website gives you the whole array of companies and their plans and gives the employer the different break downs of cost: choice of deductibles, the percentage that the employer puts and when you have analyzed the cost outlay you pick. With onset of the recession, the closure of the business thus being unemployed, the MA state insurance plan was a breath of fresh air, the premiums if you have any, are affordable, no co-pays for medical doctors, dental and vision coverage.Having employment once again, means back to the private insurance plan, which means so much money out of pocket on my end. Having been an employer, I know that the high deductible plans are cheaper for the employer and an employer can get away with paying in only 20%. I didn’t choose those plans because I couldn’t afford high deductibles myself. Having had the experience of both, I wish that MA had a single payer system. In this country even if you are insured the costs are still too hard if you get ill. Why do we accept this?

We all went to the movies this evening and saw The Wrath of the Titans in 3D. The Wrath is the sequel to the Clash and if you liked the first one you will definitely like the second one. I really liked all the actors that they got for the sequel, Liam Neeson, Ralh Fiennes and Sam W. It’s late and I’ll post more in depth tomorrow.

If public transportation were available in your neighborhood, would you use it?
Public Transportation
Subway
I grew up with public transportation and nothing beats the convenience, the cost savings, the positive impact on the environment and the independence it affords you. If my small town could have a trolley that would take us all the way into the city, that would be wonderful. We live up the mountain so a city bus or elevated train wouldn’t make sense, now that I think about it, I don’t think that the trolley would make much sense either.

How can anyone say that congressman Ryan scored a huge victory with his budget proposal? His budget won only with republican votes and not even all the republicans. He failed to get even one democrat vote, that in my book isn’t a huge victory. It is a GOP budget that was passed by the GOP dominated house. I know that the Progressive Caucus’s budget failed but I wish that their budget would get some air time or print space so that more people would be aware of the vision that the progressives have for our nation. The idea that Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid would be safe might please some folks and that the bloated Pentagon budget would be trimmed instead might also appeal to the folks in middle America. Just saying.

I am tempted to say that this recall election will be the linchpin moment in electoral politics for 2012. Here in Wisconsin we will be witness to the future health of the union movement both in the public and private sectors. If the recall is successful than the tide will shift against all the recent union crippling momentum gained by the GOP. I also think that since Romney supports Walker, a win by the democrats for Governorship in Wisconsin will be a huge blow to Romney’s chances in the general election. I know that President Obama has been critiqued for being silent on all that is going on in Wisconsin but I have to agree with his strategy. I have seen that each time President Obama supports something, it becomes kryptonite. I say let the unions and the democrats win this one, they have to know that their President is behind them in spirit.

Theoretically once humans were able to get past the hunter-gatherer stage of development and able to stay put in a food producing community that is when women could have children quickly. Nomads don’t have the luxury of producing child after child, someone has to carry them. Afterwards particularly for farmers, children were workers and women needed to replace babies who didn’t make it. Mrs Duggar isn’t living that harsh reality, once birth control was available, the number of women who used it to control their destiny’s and the number of children says something about how large families is an economic and practical nightmare. We, as a nation, are dealing with student loan debt at a trillion, an unemployment rate of 8%, health care insurance that is explosive in cost and a GOP that is trying to make reproductive choice a thing of the past. Mrs. Duggar is living her dream but don’t try to make it out to be feasible for everyone or that this country is under-populated, perhaps the WASP group is but that is about it.
