By chance the hubby stumbled on an old film, Lili, starring Leslie Caron and Mel Ferrer. The movie takes place in France and it revolves around a traveling carnival. Leslie Caron plays a naive waif, orphaned and stumbles upon a job quite accidentally with the brilliant puppet master played by Mel Ferrer. Their relationship is of course complicated, she is an innocent young girl unaware that she is so charming and Mel Ferrer plays the gruff slightly bitter jaded mentor. Love of course blossoms but it is really Leslie Caron’s performance that captured my attention. She is so natural and genuine in her role as an ingenue, you fall in love with her and you get easily annoyed by the persistent gruffness of Mel Ferrer towards her character.

I know that Audrey Hepburn was known for the gamine look but I find that Leslie Caron had her own indelible mark on the look as well. Her beautiful blue eyes that had a feline air to them and her little girl pout with those full lips, when she walked, she did it with the grace of a young ballerina.

I had seen Leslie Caron a million times as Gigi, but I seeing her as Lili really brought home how special she was as an actress, dancer and singer.

161-bathroom ceiling

I would redo the downstairs bathroom. It hasn't been touched in over eighteen years so it definitely needs a make over. I would tile the floor with rich deep blue tiny tiles. The walls would get white subway tile with the occasional blue tile to make a nice design. I found a beautiful sink and counter in the Pottety Barn catalog. Overall it would have a meditteranean feel to it.

Santorum ‘Theology’ Quip a Sign of Fear-Based GOP Politics

The GOP is forced to attack President Obama on his “otherness” because economically they do not have a viable platform. Anyone who understands a modicum of economic theory understands that President Obama’s policies are well within the center right school of economic thought. His health care insurance policy is right out of the Heritage Foundation think tank, his immigration policies are also right of center. As far as progressives go, they are often up in arms regarding some of the choices our President has made but we welcome him over and above anyone else because he still has the middle class and those who strive to achieve that still in his thoughts. He is still a President who believes in inclusion as opposed to exclusion. We are a country where we are in this together, not every man or woman for themselves. That is what makes us who we are.

Latino Mormons Speak Out Against Mitt Romney

I don’t understand this tie between religion and politics and how it can affect your vote. I don’t even understand why religion is so crucial to having values, this woman Packard says that she was pulled to Mormonism because of its emphasis on family values, you don’t need religion for that. It can come from within, why do people need a religion to be kind, considerate, accepting and patient. I could go on but it has always astonished me that some need to have a minister stand before them threatening fire and brimstone to keep them on the straight and narrow. Being kind and loving isn’t that hard. That being said why is the GOP, who are not very kind or giving in their campaign speeches to those who are poor and unfortunate, the ones always talking about religion? Their words do not match those of Jesus in any way.

Wall Street Abandons Republicans — Now Supports Higher Taxes on the Wealthy

I think that Jamie Dimon and his friends have finally thought through the overall bigger picture with a view towards the long term. Higher taxes on the absolute wealthiest of the country promotes economic growth, it doesn’t hinder it. Instead of taking their huge profits or income into their pockets where it will be taxed they will re-invest it into the economy, into new businesses, adding new jobs, investing in education in sum making their money work for them and for us. The wealthy, as consumers, aren’t as effective as the rest of us simply because they are such a small number. Our buying power on a daily basis is greater, which goes back to Henry Ford’s genius of paying his workers a better wage, not because he was altruistic, he knew that it was good business, he had a guaranteed customer, his employees who would buy his product. The wrong message that the GOP is sending to the American worker is that they should be grateful for any job, we need to stop them and say no, we deserve a better paying job. It is not normal for a family to have to depend on two or three jobs to perhaps get a glimpse of the American dream. Normal isn’t a concrete thing, normal is what we overall as a society accept, it can change. We have to want it to change.
