Payroll Tax Cut Fight: House GOP Leadership Offers 10-Month Extension Without Offsets

I would much rather have the unemployment benefits extended and the Medicare payments to doctors be taken care of over keeping the payroll tax cut simply because the safety of social security has always been its independent funding away from the general fund. The Medicare payments to doctor’s is just the right thing to do and the other two are good common sense ways to get more money circulating in the economy by giving consumers more buying power. All around across the ocean, austerity programs have increased the severity of their economic crisis, we should show them that investing in your workers and consumers is the right way to go. Full disclosure, austerity on any front is killing the construction industry and not just in the residential sector but also the industrial sector and the major public works sector, my husband and his colleagues have been interviewing for months and months and only this past week has something broke, we are waiting for confirmation next week. This could be the sign that things have really turned around.

Obama Budget Signals Shift From Austerity Measures To Campaign Promises

I say that it is about time for President Obama to reaffirm his commitment to the middle class. He stated it eloquently late last year with his speech channeling Teddy Roosevelt and now he put his commitment to paper with his budget. Paul Abrahms wrote an excellent article explaining the quintessential difference between the democrats and the republicans. President Obama is clearly in the group that firmly beIieves that we are a Country and society of ANDS, we can invest in our nation AND still make spending cuts that are responsible. The republican party clearly belongs to the group that believes in a society of OR. We could have huge spending cuts OR increased taxes to deal with the budget, their isn’t any discussion with OR. On the other hand, there is much more flexibility and opportunity for negotiation with the AND worldview. I am proud to stand behind the President’s budget that reflects re-investment in our educational system, our teachers, our research and development institutions be they in the private sector or the public sector AND provides a responsible blueprint for spending cuts.

new york city street

I leave my little town at least once a month for a trip to New York and if not New York than it's Boston. Either way there is a trip to one of those two major cities at least once a month. One is for family and the other for business.

This morning was a little crazy and I don’t know how it got crazed. I woke up at a respectable hour, took care of the dogs, made the coffee and my oatmeal with flaxseed. I have to say that the simply old-fashioned way of cooking oatmeal with skim milk and milled flaxseed makes the best difference in terms of flavor. Anyway, I had my oatmeal and one mug of coffee and the clock is showing 10:00, where did one hour go? I had barely finished reading all my e-mails, my favorite bloggers and my political newsletter and journals. I still had to jump in the shower and wash my mane. The game plan was to be out of the house by 11:00 at the latest because I have bi-weekly allergy shots and the hours are limited, prescriptions to pick up and another visit to the tax preparers to sign off on the return.
Normally, most mornings, regardless of how early I need to leave, I usually manage to write at least two comments on the Huffington Post, get all my angst and anxiety out of my system early in the morning, it does my mind and body good to expel such nervous worries, this morning I feel as if an hour crucial to my morning writing went missing and I don’t know where it went. I feel as if I have to play catch up on my daily writing quota. I hope that tomorrow isn’t a repeat and that I will have enough time to squeeze in at least one comment before I have to leave to get my six month scheduled mammogram, I’m a little nervous but I won’t let that deter me from doing what needs to be done. Hopefully I’ll get good news and that mammogram will be the last one of the six month interval and I’ll be able to go back to yearly mammograms. Here’s to keeping the fingers crossed.
