My Opinion of Reality TV

Gordon Ramsey

I find that the initial curiosity fades very quickly after two seasons; examples are Dancing with the Stars, Hell’s Kitchen and the Apprentice. I tuned into Real Housewives of N.Y and couldn’t turn away for the episode because I was in shock with those grown women behaving in such a fashion. I prefer fantasy over reality any day, it’s less disturbing.

baked eggs, chopped spinach, convection oven, egg yolks, freshly ground black pepper, grated nutmeg, postaday2012

I was sitting here on my couch, wracking my creative mind trying to come up with something half way interesting to write about and lo and behold, ask and you shall receive. I decided to make baked eggs over creamed spinach for the baby girl and so I chopped the onion, sautéed them until they were nice and translucent, added the defrosted chopped spinach, added kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, freshly grated nutmeg and then added half-n-half and Parmesan cheese. I put the creamed spinach into the baking dish, cracked two eggs on top of the creamed spinach, sprinkled more Parmesan cheese and threw into the convection oven for 15 minutes at 375. Therein was the mistake, I thought that I had the correct time and temperature but according to the baby girl, I had ruined it.

The eggs turned out to be overcooked, my mistake but I didn’t think that it would render the dish inedible. Again, I was mistaken, the baby girl only likes the dish when the eggs aren’t overcooked, she likes it when the yolks are runny and she can mix the yolk into the creamed spinach. She refused to eat it because without the runny yolk, she doesn’t like the creamed spinach. So she is goin to make herself French toast, which is fine because I am not in the mood to cook something else from scratch just because two egg yolks weren’t cooked perfectly. I tell you, the baby girl was less finicky when she was a toddler, she has gotten picky ever since adolescence and it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier.

Rick Santorum, Following Losses To Mitt Romney, Looks Ahead To Ohio Primary 2012

This primary in my mind crystallizes the importance of an Obama win 2012 because either a Romney or Santorum Presidency would wreak havoc on our economy or at least the economy for the majority of us down in the trenches, it would wreck the environment and whatever headway the E.P.A has made in the last several years, it would wreck any chances of getting college costs down and the social safety net insurance programs would be in even more jeopardy. We have already endured the economic experiment of supply-side economic theory embodied during the Bush/Cheney years and we are still shell shocked, no more. There is still much work to be done to redress all the imbalances that that disastrous experiment created. Obama 2012.

John Boehner’s Leadership Style Under Scrutiny

It is the GOP’s own fault, they aggressively pursued the tea party faction only to be co-opted by them in the final analysis. I remember way back when the GOP was known to be the party of the successful and savvy businessman and gradually throughout the eighties and nineties it morphed into a socially conservative evangelical political party that bears little resemblance to the GOP of the 60’s and 70’s. Where I once had respect for the republicans and was interested in their point of view, today I look on that party as a controlling, judgmental, greedy anti-educational narrow minded group who doesn’t bring much to the table.

Gordon Warren Epperly, Alaska Man, Says Obama Is Ineligible To Be President Because Of His Race

There aren’t any words except bad ones to use regarding this man and what he represents. I wrote yesterday that there is a quote that I recently came across and it is quite fitting in this instance. I have to thank a friend of mine for it, “Never argue with an idiot because they drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.” That is why there aren’t any words for this man.

attention span, hubby, postaday2012, remote control, scheme of things

I am gradually becoming like my mother and my hubby, they are terrible at watching normal t.v; if they are not watching something recorded, where they can fast forward through commercials, they then click-through all channels so they don’t have to watch commercials.

Being home alone, I am now finding myself remembering to use the remote when I am watching a recorded show from the previous evening. I have even started fast forwarding through parts that I find either uncomfortable or boring. I am trying not to embrace this trait too quickly because I think that it leads to increased impatience, decreased attention span and an all around negation of the medium you are actually watching.

I also think that fast forwarding through t.v would tend a person towards fast forwarding through passages in books because of increased impatience and decreased attention span. I could very well be wrong and over thinking the dangers of the remote control and its potential for reckless or feckless behavior.

In the great scheme of things, I suppose that I have just written about something as inconsequential as worrying about getting enslaved by her remote. That must show that life can’t be too bad.

On Religion

sunrise

No, not at all. I do consider myself to be a person who believes in being compassionate, empathetic, kind and loving. I was going to say spiritual but it is becoming an expression that is over used and I didn’t want to trivialize what I meant to say. I went to catholic school until eighteen so I have been educated in a religious environment but it has made me sad and angry to see how much hatred and judgement exists in this world in the name of religion.

Santorum, Romney, Democrats — Losers All

We progressives do indeed need to think beyond Presidential electoral politics and focus on the senate and house and find candidates, who think outside the box in terms of economic growth, social mobility, environmental safeguarding and civic values to be elected. I think that a discourse in civics has long been ignored and it is time to get back to those types of conversations. What our responsibilities are to each other and our society as a whole. It has been too much of us versus them; whoever “us” is and “them” are. I would find anyone, who isn’t wealthy, hard-pressed to defend the statusquo as it is today. In our country, it has become way too expensive to raise children according to the ways our parents raised us in the 50’s, 60’s 70’s and 80’s without going into debt or working obscene hours or multiple jobs. As of today the GOP hasn’t produced a single economic plan that addresses that issue, they continue to want to lower taxes for the corporate world and the upper tier, much of what they have been saying for decades and still despite the fact that the middle class and below have become poorer as a result, no one is changing course in their economic plan; instead they double down on trying to control a woman’s reproductive freedom as if that will somehow guide us into the true economic vision of the 21st century, how I don’t know.

Apology Derangement Syndrome

If religion and faith, as the three republican nominee candidates believe, are central to a society’s foundation, then it would be logical for them to afford the same respect to all religions as they do to their own especially Romney. Santorum, Gingrich and Romney all stand together with Israel and if an American soldier burned the Torah, they would be apologizing on the soldiers behalf without issue. The more that they automatically criticize and disparage President Obama for actions that either they themselves have taken in the past or for actions that are clearly called for, the more that they lose any shred of legitimacy in the public arena. This anti-Obama stance has made the whole republican platform laughable and silly. I recently read a great statement ” Never argue with an idiot because they will bring you down to their level and then beat you with their experience. I am so glad that President Obama takes the high road and doesn’t bother with all this republican insanity. Their nonsensical, extremist rhetoric I would think would push even more people to vote for our President. I know that I will.

french accent, french actor, french director, french people, postaday2012

I stayed up past my bedtime to watch the Oscars to the very end and I’m glad that I did because I got to see French actor Jean Dujardin win for best actor and his acceptance speech was charming, witty and so very Gallic. I was just as thrilled when the French director won for best director, just hearing French people speak English makes me happy. When the Artiste won for best picture it was so sweet and sexy the way that the French director turned to his wife, who was the female lead in the movie, and he thanked her for her love, her support and he then said, that she was the light of the movie, the soul of the film as well. It was so very romantic and I think the French accent really made it even more romantically dramatic.

I am sure that George and Brad were disappointed but they are both handsome, rich and talented so I don’t feel that badly for them and I am sure that they don’t begrudge Jean Dujardin his Oscar, from what I understand of his performance, it was a statuette well deserved.
