What is often not understood is that when a family uses the SNAP program those food “dollars” that are newly available to that family don’t just keep demand going in the food market industry but also frees up the family’s resources to continue to pay their bills such as rent, utilities, transport and perhaps even pay down debt. No one really wants to stay in that situation, anyone who says otherwise really doesn’t understand what you have to go through to get there. It is a bird’s eye view into the candidates priorities that either they weren’t willing or that it didn’t even dawn on them to make visiting the food bank a part of their tour. Either way Romney and Gingrich haven’t put forth any sort of new plan to address the increased numbers of Americans in poverty, so far they are intent on blaming President Obama rather than put forth solutions. And for those who say that they have put forth an economic plan, both plans are based on supply-side economic theory and further deregulation of the financial sector which is precisely what got us here in the first place.
