A Difficult Choice I'm Glad I Made

She Quit Smoking

It has been 4 years now and I am so glad that I stopped smoking, I had stopped at least 4 or 5 times prior to now and there was always a good reason behind the cessation of smoking. I was pregnant, I was breast-feeding, my husband didn't like smoking or my boyfriends didn't like it. On all those occasions of me not smoking it wasn't ever about me, I only stopped for someone else. This final time, it was only about me and my life and continuation of a healthy life. It was one of the hardest things to do but I am so happy to be completely free of smoking, free of the desire, free of the cough, free of the smell and free of the awful taste. Free of nicotine, forever!!!!

Secret Cayman Island Funds: Did Mitt Romney’s Candidacy Just Suffer a Mortal Blow?

The news of Romney’s offshore accounts has been in a few publications this morning and I am not surprised that Romney chose to go this route because he has clearly shown through his rhetoric that he doesn’t believe in a society where we are all in this together, that everyone contributes towards the public weal. He holds that view to be socialism and I know that he doesn’t really understand what true socialism means because if he did, he wouldn’t bandy the term around as often as he does. My biggest problem with Romney is that he is selling to the American people that only a business man can steer our country towards a more prosperous future, he is neglecting to be honest about which Americans he is talking about. There is nothing in his corporate portfolio that shows his concern for the workers of those companies that were bought. leveraged and sold. A good example is the steel company in South Carolina, those workers suffered because of Bain. He hasn’t spent much time using the state of Massachusetts as an example of his leadership and I wonder as to why? Is he that ashamed of his health insurance coverage mandate to all Massachusetts residents? Is he embarrassed by the 47th ranking of Massachusetts out of 50 in terms of jobs? A vote for Romney is a vote for the 1%, and I can’t afford him.

Progressives, Obamabots and a Realistic Evaluation of the President

Our President has been pilloried from both the left and of course the right, yet President Obama has soldiered on leading as is apparently his nature, pragmatically and doggedly following his vision of what needs to be done. If he hasn’t explicitly shared his exact game plan it’s because he seems to be playing a game of chess against several opponents and he is trying to keep his King alive to fight another day. I honestly feel that President Obama needs another four years to get closer to what he wanted to accomplish which is renewing the opportunities, the possibilities and hopes that your average American should be able to have realistically. I know that to redirect the trajectory of all Americans will take more time that an eight Obama presidency, it took 30 years of policy to get us to this tremendous income inequality and stalled economic and social mobility, but hopefully President Obama’s message and vision after eight years will be continued by another President come 2016. The battle for the American dream will continue.

President Obama Stands Up to Big Oil

I applaud President Obama for rejecting the Keystone Pipeline. Why was the decision up to the President? The reason is because since the oil wasn’t designated for domestic consumption, it was to be piped from Canada all the way down to Texas to the duty free export zone and off to be sold internationally. Recently the European Community has been entertaining the idea of boycotting oil derived from tar sands due to the high detriment to the global environment. If that is approved that is one economic bloc lost as a consumer. If the Europeans see the tar sands oil for the dirty oil it is, might not more countries see it that way as well? Why in the world would the President want to be part of a pipeline project that could adversely affect rivers, soil and aquifers throughout the Midwest all the way down South? Instead of searching for ways to continue to find more ways to pollute our planet and ruin our environment, why aren’t we more aggressively embracing wind power and solar power. We can have our government invest more dollars in research and development, we are or used to be the top of the game in innovation and inventions, why aren’t we leading the green energy revolution? Why are we letting the old dinosaurs of fossil fuels stand in our way?
