When Kids Should Get Cell Phones

Cell phone decals

My two kids are 20 and 17, they have had their cell phones for a few years, probably three years. In my opinion I think that fourteen is an appropriate age for a cell phone. With after school activities, it does make connecting with your child easier for picking up and dropping off.

Have you ever looked at the clock and realized with a start that it is 7:00 at night and you haven’t any idea where in the world the hours went. That happened to me today, I know that I woke up, I walked the dogs, had breakfast and then I feel as if I wandered into a black hole, nothing I did or read or said feels concrete or solid. Even now as I write this, I can’t believe that it is already 9:00, it is as if the hours passed around me. What does it mean when the clock registers the passage of time but you didn’t? I feel as if I lost hours and they will never be found. If I have nothing else pressing tomorrow, maybe I should go on an hour hunt and try to find those missing hours that escaped from my existence. At the tender age of 44 I have no business being careless with my precious hours, it just isn’t right to get to the end of a day and realize that you have a bunch of hours that are unaccounted for, neglectful timekeeping on my part.

Obama, Business Executives Meet At White House Forum

Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if President Obama didn’t quietly work behind the scenes to get things done while the media and the GOP leadership is distracted by the rants and promises of the nominees during the primary season, with the spotlight on them, it provides excellent cover for President Obama to be implementing policies that can continue to help the economy and then present them as a fait accompli like he did with the recess appointments. I believe that Romney’s attacks against our President all fall under the category of either lies or misrepresentation of facts and when you read through various media sources you see that Romney is an opportunistic predator who has been salivating for the Presidency since 2006 , he has been wanting power since 1994 when he ran against Kennedy, as Newt was kind enough to remind us. If Romney had won than he would have been the professional politician that he tried to paint Ginrich as, those two when they go head to head is so entertaining.

Romney is telling the truth when he says that he wants America to become once more the land of opportunity and freedom, he just keeps forgetting to specify which Americans he wants that for. He wants to lead the country back to the heady days of full deregulation of the financial sector, he wants to permanently free the one percent from the onerous burden of their taxes, I really don’t understand his vision for the rest of us, aside from the fact that we are simply peons to be hired and fired without any security whatsoever. He embraced the Ryan plan which means that, as in Massachusetts, he wants all the health care insurance companies to have access to every elderly American as customers, in MA it is every person as long as you have a job, if you are poor than you are covered through Masshealth. He is from privilege, it is obvious from all his gaffes, he hasn’t a clue as to how extraordinarily difficult to make a success for yourself when you come from nothing, it is possible but it is nowhere like it used to be, but Romney is not talking about reversing the lack of social mobility, he through his policies will only work to reduce what social mobility there is.

Obama, Sarkozy and Taxing Wall Street

President Sarkosy is a conservative in France that is true but the label doesn’t have the same meaning in France than it does here. That being said, the French populace and electorate are much more open to making the true culprits pay, the negligent, greedy, irresponsible and fraudulent bankers, credit reporting agencies and the big insurance brokers. They recognize the “moral” issue at hand and that gives their demand for a financial transaction tax validation. I believe that the American people as a whole support the idea of a financial transaction tax to pay down our deficits or better yet why not use the tax to invest in our educational system, help the student loan bubble or rebuild our decaying public infrastructure. The French people don’t have to worry about health care insurance, underwater mortgages, student debt bubbles, they have their own concerns but if they see the wisdom in getting the bankers to pay a small tax on financial transactions why shouldn’t we as well?
