Top 20 David Brooks False Equivalencies of 2011

It is not only David Brooks but Tom Friedman is guilty of this as well, he might not be as shameless as Brooks but you find yourself yelling at Friedman from time to time. At one time before the 1970’s the Grand Old Party and the Democrats were two opposing visions balancing each other out or that is the myth that we are told before we all go to sleep at night. However, when I look around at the political and economic landscape of 2011, I see the wreckage of what the pursuit of free market policies has wrought on our society. All the fail safe policies that were installed to hopefully make sure that runaway wealth inequality would not reappear and a Great Depression would not happen again were repealed and what did we see happen? A repeat of 1929 and the depression lasted until the second world war, more or less a decade. I don’t care what the “experts” say we are in a depression and until living wages, jobs and consumer demand are increased, we are going to stay like this.

Dear Washington Post: Ron Paul Is Not a Champion of Civil Liberty

I don’t understand why Ron Paul wants to be President. The vision that he has for the United States clearly didn’t work in the past, hint: the Articles of Confederat­ion, if he is so bent on being the head of something why doesn’t he aim for Governor and be the “President­” of a state such as his beloved Texas? It is a big state with a budget comparable to small countries. He can be as isolationi­st as he’d like, he can apply his vision of leadership and small government and be very fulfilled. I think that it would have been an obvious choice for him instead of the path that he has taken.

New Year’s Eve

Even when I am surrounded by family and friends I do get a tad sad with the closing of yet another year. I look back and realize that time relentlessly marches forward and doesn’t stop to wait for anyone. I sometimes look at the upcoming new year with a little trepidation. I am not too sure how fast this one will go, if it will bring good things or disappointment, a lot of uncertainty for the New Year’s eve. This year I am alone or relatively alone, my daughter is with her friends and my hubby and son are down in the south. I do have my two dogs with me to guard me and keep me company. Jack isn’t much protection but his ultra high bark can pierce your eardrums, Rex, on the other hand, my majestic German Shepard, he is a guard dog. He has been patrolling the back yard very intently the past few days barking a lot, which isn’t something he does often. It is as if he wants to remind everyone that he is on duty. Entering my house you won’t forget that he is on duty because he is 125 lbs and you have to walk around him, not like Jack who you can walk over him without a problem. So as the evening is drawing to a close and it is becoming night-time, I am getting a little sad, I know that I’ll be asleep in a bit, but I still feel alone saying good-bye to 2011. Hopefully 2012 will be a good, productive and healthy year for myself, my family here and abroad, and everyone else I hold dear.
