It is very difficult to reconcile love of money with love of Jesus. I remember visiting the Vatican and feeling sad that the priceless objects gathered under the roof of the Catholic church were being admired by countless visitors daily and yet there was such abject poverty throughout the world. Martin Luther when he severed all ties with the Catholic church, the major point of contention was, in his estimation, the absolute wrongful nature of the tithe that the Catholic church demanded from the poor. Martin Luther had a huge issue over the love of wealth and power that defined the church. I think that Martin Luther would now extend his gaze across the Christian right movement and have the same criticisms of their hierarchy. I do find it amusing that they worship at the altar of Ayn Rand as well as Jesus, the polar opposite of each other and these “smart” people don’t find it disturbing in the least. Amazing.
