Notebooks

If I were taking a class, I would always pick a pen and notebook for note taking. When taking messages, I still rely on pen and paper. I haven't graduated to inputting into electronic devices yet.

Paul Krugman: ‘The Real Extremists Here Are America’s Oligarchs’

Mr. Krugman is right on the money. The GOP and the tea party backed politicians are so quick to denounce and marginalize the OWS and Ms. Elizabeth Warren because they are scared that this is not going to be a flash in the pan but the OCW will continue to grow and do to free market capitalism what all the civil rights marches did to our social contract, force the government to stand up and recognize that our society, as it is currently operating, is failing us as a country and regulations need to be re-introduced both on the financial sector and the environment. That the artificial importance of finance in our economy is ill advised, it doesn’t promote growth for our country as a whole, it just engenders risk for us all and growth only at the upper tier where it stays. When are the GOP going to own the fact that we don’t have a free market system, TARP is proof that we have a socialist capitalism, the banks weren’t allowed to fail as they should have if we adhered to free market ideology. So please Herman Cain stop with your free market speech, it is all an illusion.

U.S. Incomes Declined More During Recovery Than In Recession: Study

This sad fact of declining wages isn’t surprising since employers know that every worker is terrified of losing their job that they will boost productivity, do anything to keep their job. This is an employer’s world, we are lucky to get the paycheck. Without the unions bargaining strength of a solid group, individuals haven’t any power or leverage. Potential job seekers are a dime a dozen. A huge question for the future is how are we going to re-educate the corporate mentality? The whole problem lies with the idea that supposedly American workers cost too much to employ and that is why out-sourcing has become necessary, without workers accepting a dollar a day, all our stuff would be too expensive and companies would fail. On the other hand, companies will still fail if you don’t have a consumer class which is what is happening right now. When are the people in power going to understand that? Instead of wasting time and trying to break the last of the unions, the public workers union, they should be addressing the huge conundrum that lies before us. How do we get our workers, our families back to work with living wages so that we can feed this economic machine of ours?

If we live our lives forwards, why do we examine it backwards?

The saying, if you don’t study history, you are bound to repeat the mistakes of the past, is so well-known for a reason. If we repeat certain behaviors, such as bad relationships or bad jobs, it could be because there is something in your past that you are missing and it is making you susceptible to these behaviors. That is one instance where learning from the past could make a difference for your future.

On the other hand, there are times when the present and the future get eclipsed from a concentrated focus on the past. There are some people, who for a myriad of reasons, can’t seem to engage in their present day lives and lose themselves in reliving the glory days. That is a recipe for losing what time you have in this life, if all you can do is attempt to recapture a life that has long gone by with the people, situations and context associated with the past. It is impossible to replicate a specific place in time. The people are different, the feelings are different, the times themselves are different. Unfortunately, everyone knows someone like this in their lives, and they are for the most part, unhappy souls. They are stuck at the pause button of emotional growth in life or they simply want the rewind button to really work on their life and it can’t.

I can say with certainty, that I love my memories very much but I am always excited about the future and what possible challenges and adventures might come my way. I am, right now and for the next few weeks, doing background preparation for the month-long writing challenge in November. It’s called National November Novel Writing Month, the challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to write a 50,000 word novel in one month. You have from November 1 to November 31st to do all your writing. I’m getting excited and nervous, I hope that I am up to the task.
