My Middle Name

My middle name is Anne Henriette. Anne is a very popular middle name in France, Henriette is my grandmother's name. In French, it's a very pretty name, unfortunately it loses something in translation. For my given name, Laurence, I am not named for anyone, my mother thought that it was pretty in French and it didn't occur to her that it wouldn't ne a girls name in English as well. She didn't speak English when I was born.

This is an easy one, my dreams of France. I have had the same dream at least once a month for as long as I remember. I am always at my grandparents house, we are always about ready to eat so we aren’t far from the dining room table. When I say we, I am referring to myself and one or more of my cousins, it is always my older cousins who I grew up with, that either looked out for me or that I actively played with. We are also always going in and out of the kitchen where my aunt is still doing last-minute preparations to whatever we are about to eat. My uncle is always in the background, being quietly present as usual. These dreams are always filled with happiness and joy while I’m in them, it’s when I wake up that I realize that it was just a dream and I become sad and my heart gets a little heavier because they are over there and I’m here.
